What can I say. I like Norah Jones' songs. It's just so
refreshing to hear a young woman of nowadays sing about human frailties and
sorrow, rather than how they "oops" did it again, or other such
infantile sexual fantasies. I hope her songs will remain as timeless as
our own weaknesses.

Humble Me
- by Norah Jones -
Went out on a limb
gone too far
broken down at the side of the road
stranded at the outskirts and sun's creepin' up
Baby's in the backseat
still fast asleep
dreamin' of better days
I don't want to call you but you're all I have to turn to
What do you say
when it's all gone away ?
baby I didn't mean to hurt you
truth spoke in whispers will tear you apart
no matter how hard you resist it
it never rains when you want it to
You humble me Lord
humble me Lord
I'm on my knees empty
you humble me Lord
you humble me Lord
please, please, please forgive me
Baby Teresa she's got your eyes
I see you all the time
when she asks about her daddy
I never know what to say
Heard you kicked the bottle
and helped to build the church
you carry an honest wage
is it true you have somebody keeping you company ?
What do you say
when it's all gone away ?
baby I didn't mean to hurt you
truth spoke in whispers will tear you apart
no matter how hard you resist it
it never rains when I want it to
You humble me Lord
humble me Lord
I'm on my knees empty
you humble me Lord
you humble me Lord
please, please, please forgive me
첫댓글 Thanks for introducing this song to us. I don't know why I never thought of listening to this song before even though I have come across this title in the past. I copied yours and listening to it over and over as I think of the meaning. It's refreshing, yet making me feel somber.
Hello, Elaine. Thank you for your kind words once again. Yes, I tend to like these "bluezy" songs.... It might be depressing for some, but it has a calming effect on me.
These words(humble, forgive) were very important for us to live in this world.God gave them to us.
Hello reed. Certainly those words are important, whether a god gave them to us or we found them ourselves. But I enjoy this song not because it contains a prayer to a god, but rather because it contains a HUMAN prayer. It celebrates (in its own way) the person who sings the prayer rather than ..
the god or gods to whom the prayer is sung. Perhaps, this world would be a better place if we cared a bit more about those who sing the prayers than to whom the prayers are sung.
