Depending on what Audi and what iPod Or iPhone you have will determine what cable you will use in
order to connect the devise with the Audi interface. Above is a Sheet that will help with what cable you
require with your Audi and your particular devise. You will have to be aware of the equipment level of
the Audi and know if it has AMI with navigation or without. Failing to have the correct cable when
interfaced with a iPod device and vehicle will cause your Bluetooth to be inoperative. Having the
correct cable is only important if you plan on having the iPhone Bluetooth capable as well as the
music interfaced.
This is what the blue I-Pod adapter cable will look like.

This is what the all black iPod adapter cable will look like

When you look into the glove box of the Audi (except the Q7) you will see the iPod Dock.
In order to connect the I-Pod to the Audi you will need to open the door on the left portion of the iPod dock and pull the shelf out.
Place the iPod on the shelf and conect the cable to the vehicle and the iPod or iPhone.
After you have connected the device to the vehicle you can close the glove box and work through the
AMI to choose your “Source”, it is in the top right of the screen after pushing the C/D-AUX button.
From here all you have to do is enjoy your music and enjoy your Audi.

Genuine Audi iPod adapter in the box.
When you open your iPod it should come with four bags plus a “How To Operate” manual.
The four bags will look like this.
This is an example of what the part number will look like. Remember not all part numbers will be the
same; they will vary depending on application.
This is what the iPod interface cable will look like. Depending on how the cable is installed and on
what model of Audi, this cable will either come out in the glove box or center console.
When you have the iPod next to the cable you see how the symbol on the cable clearly distinguishes it
for an iPod device. (Sorry iPod not included)
When you have the two mated the music will play in the vehicle like a compact disk. The iPod will rest
in the glove box and you will be able to change songs as if you were changing tracks on a compact
disk play.

To make our lives even a little easier Audi has brought out their version of Bluetooth MP3 interface
technology. This system works very nicely; if you have a Bluetooth compatable MP3 device, it will work
for you. After you have updated the software on your MMI system with the provided flashdrive you can
then attach the USB adapter and you are connected. Without ever having to physically connect your
music device to your Audi, you can link the music right through your in vehicle audio system. This is a
very cool innovation that is sure to add to your entertainment experience!

What came first, the ipod or the MP3? When you talk about music and interface capabilities people
think you have to have an iPod, and seem to forget that MP3 devices existed long before the iPod.
Audi has an amazing interface with both the iPod and the iPhone but what about everyone else? What
about people who don’t use Apple products? (Yet!) Audi has come out with a Music Interface for
anyone who has an MP3 device and or cell phone with MP3 capabilities and a USB port. The nice
thing about the Audi product over your conventional “in car kit” is that the Audi product will charge
your MP3 device as well. So even though the MP3 and media playing devices existed long before the
iPod & iPhone, Audi has caught up and now has interface technology that suits your MP3 device,
whatever it may be.

*Audi Jukebox - How Do i import Music?
First available on the Audi Q5 the 3G MMI system has a 40GB hard drive. Approximately 20GB of that hard drive is used
to store navigation data and improved categorization and points of interest; 5GB-7GB is used for miscellaneous
functions such as storing contacts from Bluetooth. Now that leaves us with about 12GB-15GB of this remaining extra
storage on the hard drive of the 3G MMI equipt Audis that you can actually store your personal music on. How many
times have you wanted to hear a song that was on your iPod or on your memory stick sitting on your desk at home or
in your other car? Audi has come up with a way to transfer music files from your portible music device, MP3, CD,
memory stick (flash drive) or SD card onto the hard drive of your Audi. Initially we were informed that you could import
music from your iPod or any CD, however, from personal experience and further research I have found out that while it
is not quite this simple it is still a fairly easy process. Because Apple has their music secured you cannot take the
music directly off your iPod, and for the same reason you can not take music directly from an original store bought CD.
You can take music from a “burned” CD but be aware that the 3G MMI Jukebox is somewhat particular about what
brand of CD you use, as well, the format must be MP3. Now when it comes to an iPod or similar device, you have to
tranfer the music onto an SD card first and import it or you can use a memory stick, however if this is the case you will
need a special designated Audi cable to transfer the music (Cable part #4F0 051 510 G). The jukebox system works
very well and is very convenient. If I were to make a suggestion it would be to put the music you plan to import onto an
SD or flashcard because the import is much quicker then from a burned MP3 CD. The process to import the music is
very simple but make sure on the 3G MMI that you are using a card 4GB or less. If you find you are having troubles the
most likley problem is simply the format in which you are trying to transfer

Like always new technologies are always being developed, that is what makes an Audi an Audi.
It is hard enough keeping up to date on media devices, let alone having to worry about integrating
them into your vehicle. I hear people say all the time “I am dependent on my cell phone”
not realizing the potential of that litttle media device. Here is an updated sheet on
AMI (Audi Music Interface) cable conpatabilaty, to help keep you connected.
I added this spreadsheet to help you configure your iPod, iPhone or MP3 device in your Audi.
