John 3
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
"For God did not send the Son into the world
to judge the world,
but that the world might be saved through Him.
"He who believes in Him is not judged
he who does not believe has been judged already,
because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world,
and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.
"For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light
for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
"But he who practices the truth comes to the Light,
so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God."
Judas Iscariot and Dan Tribe
Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, "What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?" And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him. From then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus. Matthew 26:14-16
Judas Iscariot and his betrayal of the Lord may have been among the most grave of the many evil deeds committed throughout the Bible. However, I am left wondering what meaning this Judas Iscariot truly holds for our journey of faith. It makes me worry that even if my faith seems strong now, I could become someone who sells the Lord at any moment if circumstances call for it. So today, I would like to approach this case from a slightly different perspective.
Biblical events are sometimes recorded as a single occurrence, but in many cases they are paired through parallel events. Finding Judas Iscariot’s matchmaker begins with the number twelve. The twelve in the Old Testament are concretized as the twelve tribes of Israel. And in the New Testament, there are the Lord’s twelve disciples. Judas Iscariot was one of these twelve disciples.
One of the twelve in Old Testament figures corresponding to Judas Iscariot is the Dan Tribe. When referring to “from Dan to Beersheba,” which represents in Canaan, Dan is located at the northernmost point of Canaan, and the conquest from the Canaanite tribes was also the latest. Moreover, among the judges who appeared in the various tribes during the period of the Judges, Samson came from the tribe of Dan, and it was under Dan that Samson was sold to the Philistines. This passage relates to the situation in which Judas Iscariot betrayed the Lord.
What is said about Dan in Jacob’s final prayer suggests a great deal. It is recorded, “Dan is a serpent, and he will rule over the twelve tribes.” And these clues lead us to the Book of Job. There is a scene where Satan attends a meeting of the sons of God, discussing various matters.
Being full in Christ does not mean perfection. It is a fullness in which the tribe of Dan is missing from the twelve tribes, and Judas Iscariot is missing from the twelve disciples. The expression of fullness is also evident in the Lord’s miracle of the feeding of the five thousand. They gathered twelve baskets full of the broken pieces there. Even then, what was contained there were all broken pieces, not intact things.
The purpose of God's creation and the Lord's redemption is the fullness of the saints in Christ. The perfection that people seek is the desire to become God-like, originating from self-determination. The fullness given by God is a fullness that contains a sense of lack.
Dan and Judas refers to the serpent of Eden, the reason given to humanity. Reason is certainly beneficial. The term "reasoned" is often used to mean "wise." That is why Judas Iscariot was entrusted with the finances of the Lord’s ministry, and the Lord called the disciples “wise as serpents” in reference to this very reason. In Jacob’s prayer, he also expressed the unit by using the serpent, and I will rule over the twelve tribes Did. Dan is the first son of Bilhar, Rachel's maid.
When Judas Iscariot's sin is brought up, the question even arises as to why the Lord chose him, not knowing that he might end up that way. This is exactly the same as asking why God created snakes when He created. To us, united with the Lord, are the virtues of the twelve tribes of Israel in faith, and the fullness of the Lord’s twelve disciples. Among these, the elements that are always present are reason — that is, the Dan Tribe and Judas Iscariot. And this is the old serpent of Eden. Including this element, the fullness of the united saints in Christ is that I stand in the place of wisdom, united with the Lord and aided by reason, and stand before the Father in righteousness, united with the Lord.
