Q. Krishnamurty did not believe in a technique or gurus. I believe you met him, did you discuss this?

Answer by S. N. Goenka:

Certainly, I met him. He was a very saintly person, and I very much understood why
he is against technique and why he is against gurus. Because he observed the situation all over the country where gurus just exploit the people saying "Look I am your guru and you are my disciple, you are so weak, how can you liberate yourself ? Just
surrender to me and I will liberate you. I will liberate you."

Q. 크리슈나무르티는 기술이나 스승(구루)를 믿지 않았습니다. 당신은 그를 만났잖아요, 당신은 이것에 대해 이야기했습니까?

S N Goenka의 대답:
예 그를 만났습니다. 그는 굉장히 성자다운 사람이었습니다. 나는 왜 그가 기술과 스승에 반대했는지를 이해할 수 있었습니다. 왜냐하면 그는 전국에 걸쳐 스승들은 "보시오 내가 스승이요. 당신은 나의 제자이다. 당신은 매우 약하다. 어떻게 당신이 스스로 자유로워질 수 있다는 것인가? 나에게 그냥 항복하시오. 그러면 내가 당신을 자유롭게 해줄 것이오."라고
이야기하면서 사람들을 이용하고 있다고 말했다.

This is exploitation by gurus, this is against Dhamma and when you talk of technique that means you have got one object and you are just working with one object. It does not take you to the final goal.
이것이 구루들에 의한 이용당하는 것이며, Dhamma에 대한 반대되는 것이다. 당신이 수단에 의한 기술을 이야기할 때 당신은 하나의 목표를 가지고 있고 그 목표를 가지고 일하고 있다는 것을 뜻한다. 그것은 당신을 최종의 목표로 도달케 하지 못한다.

Things are changing from moment to moment you are observing, you are observing.
(This is Vipassana, this is not a technique, Vipassana is not a technique, it is a process of observation.)

당신이 관찰하고 있는 사물은 때때로 변하고 있다. (이것이 Vipassana이다. 이것은 기술은 아니다. Vipassana는 기술은 아니다. 그것은 관찰의 과정이다.)

So I discussed with him "Well in age you are an elderly person and in experience also you are an elderly person." It was 30 years ago when we met. "You are elderly so let me know if I am making any mistake. I am teaching Vipassana because I got benefit from it and I want to share my benefit with others. That is the only reason. If I am making any mistake please tell me''. then he (K) asked me "First day what you teach?''. (I replied and he said)

그래서 나는 그에게 "당신은 꽤 나이가 들었고, 경험 또한 성숙한 사람이다."라고 말했다. 우리가 만났을 때는 30년 전이었다. "당신은 성숙했으므로 저에게 내가 실수를 하면 말해주세요. 나는 Vipassana로부터 이익을 얻고 있으므로 Vipassana를 가르치고 있습니다. 그리고 이런 이득을 다른 사람과 함께 나누고 싶습니다. 이것이 유일한 이유입니다. 만약 제가 실수라도 하게 되면 말해주십시오." 그리고 나서 그는 나에게 "당신은 첫 날 무엇을 가르칩니까?"라고 물었다. 나는 대답했고 그는 말했다.

''Oh! This is not a technique''...second day... (K said) ''This is not a technique''.
....all the ten days I explained (and K said) "This is not a technique, you are observing the truth. The truth from moment to moment. Perfectly all right !''.

"오, 이건 기술이 아니예요, ..둘째 날에 대해서도 ,,,10일간에 대해서도 말을 했지만 그는 "이건 역시 기술이 아니예요, 당신은 진실을 관찰하고 있습니다. 때때로 변하는 진실을요..정확히 옳습니다."

And guru? (I said) "I never say that I will liberate you, you have to work out your own liberation. A guru can only show the path then only sadguru. Otherwise if he tries to exploit then he is not a guru, he is harmful to the country." He said, "no this is not
gurudom." He accepted both.

그리고 스승이라구요?(나는 말했어요) "나는 내가 당신을 자유롭게 하겠다고 말하지 않는다.
당신은 당신 자신이 당신의 자유를 해결해야 한다. 스승은 단지 길을 보여줄 수 있다. 그렇지 않고 만약 그가 이용하려 한다면 그는 스승이 아니라 그 사람에게 해가 되는 존재이다."라고 그는 말했다.
