Summary:
Paul, called as an apostle of Jesus Christ by God’s will, and Sosthenes the brother, send greetings to the church of God in Corinth - those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called as saints, together with all who call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord everywhere. He blesses them with grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Teaching:
When we remember that we are called by God’s will, we can remain unshaken before the world. The phrase “the church of God” means that the church originates in God. Even though the apostles may establish churches with their hands, the beginning is in God, for it is He who calls people into the church.
“The church of God” also means that not only the beginning but also the continuation belongs to God, and its purpose is directed toward Him. As those who confess that we are in Christ Jesus, we must not be swayed by the self-centered and competitive values of the world, but strive to restore a life worthy of His calling.
