Summary:
Most of the Corinthians were not influential, wise, or noble by worldly standards. God intentionally chose what seems foolish, weak, and lowly to shame the wise and strong, so that no one could boast before Him. By God’s action they are united with Christ, who has become their wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. Therefore, all boasting must be directed to the Lord alone.
Teaching:
“so that no human may boast before God.”
God stops people from boasting before Him. When a smart person enters the church, they may try to show off their intelligence, and someone influential may try to display their power.
Whether great or small, we are all born of God and saved in Christ Jesus. The most precious things in our lives are received from God and enjoyed in Christ. Jesus, the Son of God, has become our wisdom, righteousness, holiness, and redemption—these are what we need most.
We should all humble ourselves, taking the place of the despised and lowly, serving the Lord and the holy people of God, and becoming servants who lift up many in the church.
