Summary:
Paul tells the Corinthians he could not address them as spiritually mature but as “infants in Christ,” still needing milk rather than solid food. Their jealousy, quarrels, and factionalism show they are living like the world. Paul and Apollos are merely servants through whom they believed, each assigned by God. Paul planted, Apollos watered, but God caused the growth. Therefore, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything in himself; God gives the increase. Both planter and waterer are united in purpose and will each receive their own reward for their labor. Together they are God’s fellow workers; the believers themselves are God’s field and God’s building.
Teaching:
Those who belong to the flesh are infants in Christ; the spiritual person is mature in Christ. A spiritual person is someone who has received the Holy Spirit; a complete person is one who discerns by the Spirit and lives according to God’s word.
A person of the flesh does not know the Holy Spirit, so they cannot understand God’s work, God’s thoughts, or God’s plan.
The marks of the fleshly person are jealousy and strife; the marks of the spiritual person are righteousness, joy, and peace.
“So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters are nothing; God gives the reward according to the work done.”
God alone is your Savior. You may disregard the pastor, but accept the gospel the pastor preaches. In reality, no one can boast of themselves. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field and God’s building.
