초록
The hypothesis that things have affordances, and we can either perceive or learn to perceive them is promising, but it is not elaborated enough. The meaning of affordance is different from its dictionary definition and also it is different from one researcher to another researcher. Gibson (1971) referred to the term “affordances” as what things furnish, or afford the observer. Affordances are not limited only to the objects rather the places, events, and things have affordances. In fact, learning to perceive affordances is one kind of perceptual learning that has an effect on the perceptual development. In this paper, the term
‘affordance’ is elaborated from different perspectives and then its implication on language and language learning are provided.
