Chapter 2. Lower Scripture(下經,하경) 24 Teachings(訓,훈) 156 Matters(事,사)
The 6th Principle : Blessing(福,복)... Blessing... Article 232.
Gate 5 : Gwan(寬,관)... Generosity(Tolerance) ... Artiale 267.
Door 32 : Bullin(不吝,불린 - Unstinginess)... Not being stingy or miserly... Item 269.
Rin(Stinginess) means having a narrow mind and lacking neatness or nobility of character.
Bullin(Unstinginess) means properly managing both short-term giving and long-term giving.
It is giving abundantly(long) even when giving a little(short) would suffice,
and lending something valuable(heavy) even when lending something simple(light) would do,
thereby ensuring full satisfaction.
If others are poor, one should not live in excessive abundance oneself,
and when others are in anxiety or grief,
one must not take pleasure in it― thus rightly avoiding fault and wrongdoing.
[Original Text,
Rin(Stinginess) means being grudging or overly attached to one′s possessions.
Even when giving a little(short) would suffice, give aabundantly(long);
even when lending something minor(light) would suffice, lend something valuable(heavy);
Thus bringing complete satisfaction.
When seeing others in poverty, do not live in self-absorbed abundance;
And when seeing others in distress or sorrow,
do not rejoice ―only then can one truly escape wrongdoing and maintain harmony.
[Explanation,
Let us consider Rin(Stingness), which is the opposire of Bullin(Unstinginess).
When a person is narrow-minded and lacks nobility of character,
they fail to discern the true priority and relative weight ― the lenght and seriousness
(Jang-dan-gyeong-jung) ― of affairs.
Such a person generally feels fortunate about not being poor only when
seeing the poverty of others,
and rejoices in not being anxious only upon seeing the anxieties of others.
Even if such a person does not commit a glaringly gerat crime against others,
they are constantly committing a wrongdoing against them in spirit,
making thaat affense far from small.
