Paul teaches that if a man feels he is acting improperly toward the woman he is engaged to, and his passions are strong, it is not sinful for them to marry. But if he can control himself and decides to remain unmarried, he does well. Thus, marriage is good, but remaining single is even better. A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives, but if he dies, she is free to remarry - only in the Lord. Yet Paul believes she is happier if she remains as she is, and he affirms that this judgment is guided by the Spirit of God.
