Bush's South and Central America tour antagonized by Chavez U.S. President George W. Bush is currently on a 7-day, 5-country tour of Latin America to improve plummeting U.S. relations with countries in Latin America, where American trade and immigration policy have strongly hurt Bush's popularity. However, a rival tour by Venezuelan socialist President Hugo Chavez has occasionally shadowed Bush's visit. Chavez, who has a strong anti-U.S. influence in the region, staged a massive rally in a Buenos Aires soccer stadium just across a river from where Bush had stops in neighboring Uruguay. Chavez has said that it is too late for Bush to improve America's image in the region, and that, "It seems he's just now discovered that poverty exists in the region." Chavez has continuously fired insults at Bush throughout the tour, calling him a "hypocrite" and an "imperialist." (1st) antagonized 대항하다, 적대하다. German reserchers have reported in the journal Science that memories are stored and grouped during sleep, and that stimuli such as scent may help in the process. In the study, subjects were exposed to a rose scent while playing a card-matching game. They were later re-exposed to the scent while sleeping in an MRI machine, which magnetically recorded their brain activity. Subjects exposed to the scent remembered 97.2% of the card pairs, while subjects who did not smell the roses only remembered 86%. The MRI showed that the rose scent activated the hippocampus- a part of the brain associated with new things.
