Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 2:12~17 - To the Church in Pergamum, Faith/Martyrdom, but the Church in Crisis of Idolatry
Revelation 2:17 - I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.
☞ <Revelation> 2:17 - He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.(NIV); "Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.(NLT)
○ If you will be anointed with oil and armed with heavenly truth as the new knowledge of science & technology, you will be changed into a new person, and in terms of color, it will become white. Thus, you will become a 100% pure person with 100% truth. As you can see from the white color of salt and snow crystals, it means pure and uncontaminated virgin soil (or land). For example, doctors and nurses in hospitals, workers in semiconductors and food factories, and researchers in laboratories, they all wear white gowns.
○ However, the celestial white gown is not just a earthly gown, but pure, fine, noble, bright and clean linen. Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints (Revelation 19:8). Therefore, linen refers to a robe (or clothe), and acts refers to clothing (Revelation 17:14, 22:14).
○ Also, as I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_133>, ‘white’ means Jesus Christ as “white like wool, as white as snow” written in <Revelation> 1:14, and ‘white’ also means that we must wash our robes and make them white in the blood of Jesus Christ in <Revelation> 7:14, in other words, we must repent our sins, wash our sins, and make them white.
○ What is a white stone with a new name written on it? - A person who is born again of water and the spirit through the resurrection of eternal life as the first resurrection, eats manna, is to be anointed with oil, and becomes a 100% changed person, that is, like an angel (Matthew 22:30), and his changed name is engraved on a white stone.
(1) The white stone is the honor of being a new person, that is, a child of God the Father by overcoming in Christ, therefore, it is like an identification card. A new name will be engraved on the identification card that no one understands except the one who receives it because a new name will be given according to the special mission assigned to him by Jesus Christ or to the characteristics of the ministry he had performed.
(2) Judging from verses, “Jesus Christ himself as the chief cornerstone” in <Ephesians> 2:20, and “Jesus Christ as the living stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone,” in <1 Peter> 2:4~8 and <Isaiah> 28:16, the ‘white stone’ refers to Jesus Christ. So, you will have a new name engraved on Jesus Christ, which can be said to be a precious and valuable identification card with both Jesus' signature and your own signature (engraved on it).
(3-1) Although I will discuss more details in <Revelation> 2:23, “I will repay each of you according to your deeds“ which is the message to the Church in Thyatira, those who enter 'The Thousand Years' around c.AD 11,800 and 'The New Jerusalem' around c.AD 12,900 will be priests to serve God the Father and Jesus Christ, so the white stone with a new name could be something like a letter of appointment to appoint a priest.
(3-2) 'The New Jerusalem and Its Nations' will be discussed in detail later in chapters 21~22 of <Revelation>, but those who enter the City of Jerusalem will become priests (Revelation 1:6, Revelation 3:21), but those who enter Its Nations will have many roles assigned to them by Jesus Christ. Some will become kings of nations and rule over nations (Revelation 2:26). In this way, it is expected that each person will be given a letter of appointment with a new name suitable for the given role, for example, the king, minister, governor, architect, etc.
(4) Judging from that the white stone is Jesus Christ as written in <Ephesians> 2:20, <1 Peter> 2:4~8, and <Isaiah> 28:16, some interpret the new name as the new name of Jesus Christ, but the new name of Jesus Christ is mentioned in the Church of Philadelphia as written in <Revelation> 3:12, so there is no reason to prophesy the same thing twice. If the new name is Jesus Christ, everyone who receives it will recognize and understand equally.
(5) The new name is the blessing of God the Father and Jesus Christ, given only to those who have changed and who have performed new roles or missions assigned by God or Jesus Christ. For example, Abram → Abraham, Sarai → Sarah, Jacob → Israel, Saul → Paul, Simon → Peter, etc.
○ Note: Other meanings of white stones - In the case of a trial in court at that time, white stones and black stones were used to indicate the outcome of the trial. A white stone signified not-guilt (acquittal), and a black stone signified guilt. Also, when a slave became free, he was given a white stone, and sometimes a new name was engraved on the stone. And the white stone was also given to fighters who won more than 15 battles. The white stone was used as a symbol of freedom and honor.
○ Note: Names on foreheads - In <Revelation> 3:12, <The New Jerusalem> appears, which will be around c.AD 12,900. It prophesies, “I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.” (NIV).
☞ Since it is prophesied that <Revelation> 14:1, it reads, “who had his (Jesus’) name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads” and <Revelation> 22:4, it reads, “his name will be on their foreheads,” it seems that the name of God the Father, the name of New Jerusalem, and the new name of Jesus Christ will also be written on the foreheads of the one who overcomes or those who overcome. The reason why it is written on the forehead will be explained later.
☞ Judging from this, and since Jesus also has a new name in <The New Jerusalem>, it is certain that those who enter New Jerusalem will receive a new name, not the name of the earth.
