Foreign tourists very often speak highly of Korean taxis. The consensus is that they are squeaky clean. Also, cab fares are reasonable, compared to those of other advanced nations. Best of all, passengers can pay taxi fares using credit cards. In the past, it was hard to hail a cab in certain areas or during certain hours of the day. However, smartphone apps for hailing cabs have resolved much of this problem.

외국 관광객들이 한국의 택시에 대해 칭찬을 하는 경우가 매우 많다. 차량도 매우 깨끗하고, 다른 선진국에 비해서 택시 요금이 합리적이라는 것이 대체적인 평이다. 게다가 더 좋은 것은 택시 요금을 신용카드로 결제할 수 있다는 것이다. 일부 지역이나 특정 시간대에 택시를 잡는 것이 힘들던 때도 있었다. 그러나 택시를 부르는 스마트폰 앱 서비스 덕분에 그 문제도 상당 부분 개선되었다.

Ridesharing services are all the rage around the world. There has also been a demand for ridesharing and carpool services in Korea. They appeal to consumers because they are convenient and passengers could cut down on transportation costs. However, these carpool services are up against strong opposition from the taxi industry. Taxi companies argue that such services threaten their right to make a living. However, the sharing economy is a sea change in society. We can't go against the tide. A wise solution is urgently called for.

전 세계적으로 승차 공유 서비스가 각광을 받고 있다. 우리나라에서도 승차 공유 서비스와 카풀 서비스 도입에 대한 요구가 있어 왔다. 소비자 입장에서는 편리하고 교통비도 절약할 수 있어서 매력적이다. 그러나 이러한 카풀 서비스는 택시 업계의 강한 반발에 부딪히고 있다. 택시 업계는 이러한 서비스가 생존권을 위협한다고 주장한다. 그러나 공유 경제는 거스를 수 없는 큰 사회적 변화다. 슬기로운 해법이 시급하다.
