미국한인 주부사이트의 한 주부께서 미국 FDA에 질의하여 받은 답변입니다.

FDA답볍의 요점은,

1) 미국내 유통 소고기의 평균 월령은 16개월이라는 것이며

그 이상 월령의 소고기는 소세지나 갈은 고기 또는 가공식품으로 소비된다.

2) 30개월령 이상의 소 뿐만 아니라 그 이하의 어린 소들도 SRM이 제거되어 판매된다.

Thank you for your question. All beef sold in commerce in retail grocery stores in the USA is derived from federally inspected beef. All federally inspected beef has all specified risk materials (SRMs) removed before it leaves the slaughter plant and is safe for consumption. You may be able to purchase beef of any age on-ce all the SRMs have been removed from both young cattle, or cattle 30 months and older. Most beef steaks and roasts purchased in grocery stores are from cattle approximately 16 months of age. Most beef from older animals is used in sausages, some ground beef, and other manufactured beef products.
