Summary:
Paul urges the believers to recognize and submit to people like the household of Stephanas, who were among the first converts in Achaia and have devoted themselves to serving the saints. He also commends Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus for coming to him, saying they supplied what the Corinthians lacked and refreshed both his spirit and theirs. He encourages the church to acknowledge such faithful workers.
Teaching:
Submit to the leaders of the church. Even if a pastor or shepherd appears to have shortcomings, when God appoints them and entrusts sheep to their care, He also gives them the wisdom and ability needed to lead. A person may seem insufficient, but God supplies what is needed.
Acknowledge and honor those who serve the church. These individuals, established by God in the church—the body of Christ - are people appointed by Christ, who is the Head of the church, and they act on His behalf.
Even if your shepherds, teachers, or pastors seem lacking, do not disregard them, for the church is the body of Christ. Instead, serve them well. Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be courageous and strong, and let everything you do be done in love.
