Half of men say OK to their girlfriends cheating with other girls

Half of men would forgive their girlfriends for cheating on them -- as long as they did so with another woman, a U.S. study has found.

Researchers from the University of Texas, in Austin, quizzed 718 students on the subject of cheating.

Half the men surveyed said that they would forgive their girlfriends as long as the affair was with a woman. But only 22 percent of men told researchers they could forgive a partner for cheating with another man.

Conversely, women were more likely to break with a boyfriend who cheated on them with another man. Of the women asked, 79 percent said they would end a relationship if their partner cheated on them with a male. And 72 percent of women said they would break up with their partner if the affair was with another woman.

When students were asked about real-life experiences of cheating, men were more unlikely to forgive girlfriends if they cheated.

Researchers concluded that men were significantly more likely than women to have ended their relationships following their partner’s affair, according to the Metro newspaper which reported the study's findings

GM Daewoo unveils first Chevy model

GM Daewoo Auto and Technology Co. unveiled the Orlando multipurpose vehicle Wednesday. The vehicle will go on sale here on March 2.

Out of the eight new models the automaker plans to launch in the local market this year, the Orlando will be the first model produced by GM Daewoo to be sold under the Chevrolet brand in Korea.

In January, the company announced plans to change its name to GM Korea Co. and replace the Daewoo brand with the Chevrolet by the end of the first quarter.

Along with the name changes, the company will introduce eight new cars ― all of which will be sold under the U.S. brand.

At the launch event, held under then theme “Chevrolet is Korea,” the company emphasized the new brand’s connection to Korea and the newness of the Chevrolet Orlando.

“We are very excited about the first Chevrolet that was designed in Korea, engineered in Korea and manufactured in Korea. Chevrolet is Korea,” GM Daewoo president Mike Arcamone said at the event in Seoul.

Referring to the Orlando as an “Active Life Vehicle,” Arcamone also said that the vehicle represents a completely different concept to segments such as sport utility and multipurpose vehicles.

While the company does not provide sales target figures, GM Daewoo vice president for sales Ankush Arora said that the car will be shipped to 100 markets across the world, and that the plant in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, where the Orlando will be produced, will be operated at full capacity to first meet domestic demand and then export requirements.

The plant, which also produces the compact car Chevrolet Cruze that shares the platform with the Orlando, has an annual production capacity of 300,000 units.

Arcamone added that plans to raise the plant’s capacity could also be considered if demand outpaces supply.

The seven-seat vehicle has three rows of seats, the rear two of which can be folded down in various configurations.

Ranging from 19.8 million won ($17,900) to 24.63 million won, the Orlando is pricier than its only domestic competition Kia Carens which ranges from 16.51 million won to 21.39 million won.

However, the Orlando is a step ahead in both power output and fuel economy.

The vehicle is fitted with a 2-liter turbo charger diesel engine with 163 brake horsepower and meets the Euro V emission standards.

With the six-speed automatic transmission, the vehicle manages 17.4 kilometers per liter of fuel. The fuel economy figure falls to 14 kilometers per liter with the six-speed automatic transmission. In comparison, the Kia Carens manages 10.6 kilometers per liter with four-speed automatic transmission and a 2-liter gasoline engine that puts out 151 brake horsepower

Online game company tabbed as owner of new baseball team

A South Korean online game company has been tabbed as the owner of a new local professional baseball team.

The Korea Baseball Organization on Tuesday gave the green light to NCsoft Corps., the game developer, to begin work on founding the ninth club in the top-division baseball league in South Korea. The expansion team will be based in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, about 400 kilometers southeast of Seoul and could join the KBO as early as 2013.

The decision was reached at a board of directors meeting attended by KBO commissioner You Young-koo and presidents from the existing eight KBO clubs. At the previous board meeting in January, the officials had approved the expansion in principle while withholding their decision on the ownership of a new team. It will be the KBO’s first expansion since 1991.

All eight KBO teams are owned and operated by private companies, most of them major conglomerates. NCsoft was one of three local companies that submitted bids to found a new team, and the KBO said it was the only one to meet the league’s criteria. The identities of the two other bidders were not disclosed.

“Representatives of the eight teams let commissioner You make the final call,” Lee Sang-il, secretary general of the league, told reporters. “We concluded NCsoft and the city of Changwon were all qualified to join the KBO.”

During the meeting, the officials approved a new set of qualifications for an expansion team. A company wanting to start a team must either have at least 100 billion won ($90.5 million) in net profits or must record a net income to stockholders’ equity ratio of more than 10 percent. The company must also meet certain figures that determine its financial stability.
