<p>Doctors in China are reporting a successful kidney transplant using the gene-edited organ of a pig.</p><p>It's the third person in the world to be living with a genetically altered pig's kidney.</p><p>Scientists have been genetically editing pig organs so that they are more human-like in hopes of alleviating a transplant shortage.</p><p>And now doctors say two living pig-kidney recipients in the US are thriving, and a US clinical trial is about to begin.</p><p>The same research team that's reported a successful pig-kidney transplant in China is also hinting that pig livers might eventually be used.</p><p>I'm Donna Warder.</p><p> </p>
