Summary:
Paul calls God as his witness that he delayed visiting Corinth to spare them further sorrow. He explains that he and his coworkers do not seek to dominate the Corinthians’ faith, but work together with them for their joy, since it is by faith that they stand.
Teaching:
“Not that we domineer over your faith, but we are workers with you for your joy; for in your faith you are standing firm.”
The basic attitude of church workers should be not to rule over faith, but to be helpers of joy. Jesus did not come to dominate us, but to serve - and that is why He died.
Therefore, those who serve in Jesus’ church hold positions not to exercise authority over people, but to serve them; serving is their calling.
A servant’s attitude is not one of control or pressure, but of giving joy - not merely temporary or superficial happiness, but joy that benefits life, saves souls, and leads to eternal life.
Never forget that every church worker is not a ruler over faith, but a giver of joy.
