Summary:
Paul says that he and his coworkers do not need letters of recommendation, because the Corinthian believers themselves are their letter, written on their hearts and known and read by all people. He explains that the Corinthians are a letter of Christ, delivered through their ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
Teaching:
“You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all people.”
I should be your letter, and you should be my letter. We must become letters to one another. When someone looks at me, they should see what the holy people of God in this church are like, and when they look at you, they should see what kind of pastor this church has.
The letter that is engraved between us is written by the Spirit of God. To say it is written by God’s Spirit means it is part of God’s own record. When God’s Word is inscribed within us, we become one. And my ministry is that the Word I proclaim is written on your hearts.
New Testament believers are people who have the Word written on the tablets of their hearts. That Word is the Spirit, and because the Word dwells within us, the Spirit dwells within us, making our bodies the temple of God.
