사실 빈센트, 아메리칸 파이 등의 노래로 유명한 돈 맥클린(Don Mclean)이

1971년에 작사 작곡하여 처음 불렀으나 그 당시엔 그다지 인기를 끌지 못하였다.

그러나 73년 페리 코모가 친구인 기타리스트겸 프로듀서 쳇 애킨스(Chet Atkins)한테서

이 노래를 권유받고 불러 그의 부드러운 목소리와 멋진 노래말로 

많은 사람들의 가슴을 울리는 명곡으로 재탄생하였다.
