Commentary on the Gospel of John - Attributes of Christ (1)
While the other three Gospels explain who Jesus Christ is through events that occur, the Gospel of John tells us that when Jesus Christ comes in us, he becomes an attribute of God that immediately permeates us.
So, there is life in the Word, and the Word is said to be the light of people given to us by God, who is light.
It means that God, who is light, is present in people and becomes light for people.
So He tells us to receive Christ, who is the Word.
Although we say we receive Him, in reality it is to fully understand Jesus Christ and accept that Christ is my light, my life, my Savior, my bread of life, the power of God, and the image of God. It means believing in the name (John 1:12)
Just believing in Jesus Christ does not mean accepting Him.
Since it is said that all titles related to Jesus Christ will be given to us, acceptance means that we accept them all through the Word.
However, many people say they only believe in the existence of Jesus Christ.
If you receive Christ as your personal savior, the Holy Spirit will work within you, but since you say you only believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit will only appear through external work.
That is, like the Corinthian church, it is in Christ but belongs to the flesh.
Therefore, there are many cases where the attributes of Christ are not revealed in Christians.
Every day, they only say that they believe in Jesus and boast that Jesus is within them, but the reason that the attributes of Jesus Christ are not revealed to them is because they have not learned the knowledge of God in Jesus Christ.
They do not have a process of continuous learning in Christ, so although they become smooth like pebbles in a stream after a long period of religious life, they are completely useless.
If Jesus Christ, the Word, is within us, not only is Jesus Christ present, but he reveals to us the glory of his attributes.
Jesus Christ is within us and we are filled with grace and truth (John 1:14)
As a result, being made by grace objectively looks at me from God's perspective, so through faith, God lifts me up to the position promised by God, and in truth, as I have been made by God's grace, I subjectively approach God according to that promise.
Therefore, you will be filled with the Lord who fills all things, and will finally appear as a powerful person who reveals the glory of the only begotten Son through your body.
Looking back at the Gospel of John, in John 2, we say that we are born again, that we receive Christ, which means we are married to him.
Our bodies change from the moment we get married, and this is what he is referring to as the event where water changes into wine.
Our body changes and becomes a temple where God dwells.
That's the story in Chapter 2 of the Gospel of John.
In John 1, the attributes of Jesus Christ are light, life, glory, grace, and truth, but in John 2, he become a mysterious element that changes the taste of our personality, just as water changes into wine.
This means that the Word itself causes this kind of change within us.
Then, Christ, the Word, turns our body into a temple where the Holy Spirit, where God dwells, dwells.
That is why Paul strongly says that unless Christ is in you, you are not a Christian (Romans 8:9).
He says that if Christ is in us, our body becomes a temple where the Holy Spirit dwells (1 Corinthians 3:16).
And when we come into John 3, Christ came into us, and that event tells us that we have been born again.
He came to us as his only begotten Son, and in him we have eternal life by believing in him (John 3:16).
Here, the attribute of Christ is changed to eternal life.
So, it is said that he who has the Son has life (1 John 5:12). What are the attributes of Christ? His identity is the Son of God, and if the Son dwells in us, he becomes life.
This means that the Son does not remain within us alone and silently, but that his attributes become life to us.
Just as when we eat rice, not only the food comes into us, but when the food is digested, it becomes nutrients and strength, when Christ is within us, it becomes life.
In John 4, it is said that he is a gift from God.
When God's gift comes into us, he becomes a living water that will never thirst.
Living water is also an attribute of Christ.
When we say attributes, only his personality is called attributes, but that is not the case.
God comes to us not only as who, but also as what, and his attributes in his name are revealed in us.
All the power and wisdom through which He works and operates, and even anything that provides bread to us, are all attributes of Christ.
That is why he became the husband of living water to us.
The Lord becomes the husband of our living water and enables us to truly worship God in the Spirit and truth (John 4:24).
