Summary
Paul states that believers would prefer to be absent from the body and present with the Lord, yet whether living in the body or away from it, their goal is to please Him. He explains that all believers must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, where each person will be repaid for what they have done in the body, whether good or bad.
Teaching:
Paul says that the reason for his life and the reason for his death are not based on his own purposes, but on what pleases the Lord. If the Lord is pleased, he is content even to die, and if the Lord is pleased, he is content to live. This is a confession that he is willing either to die or to live according to God’s will.
What we do with our bodies is very close to what is in our hearts. That is why Revelation says that we will be judged according to our deeds. What we do in our bodies reveals our hearts as they truly are. Therefore, cherish a life of faith in which you believe in Jesus with your whole body.
Even if your faith is only the size of a mustard seed, if you have genuinely tried to live by faith, you should value that mustard-seed faith and seek to grow it. You must read the Word more, pray, and strive to live according to the Word.
