Summary:
Paul teaches that, because of Christ, believers no longer evaluate anyone by merely human standards. Anyone who is in Christ is a new creation—the old has passed away and the new has come. This new reality is entirely God’s work: through Christ, God reconciled us to Himself and entrusted believers with the message of reconciliation. In Christ, God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them, and committing to us the word of reconciliation.
Teaching:
When we believe in Jesus as our Savior, the power that makes us new comes upon us and renews us. Even though our physical body and our feelings may seem unchanged, God renews our life, our spirit, our heart, and even our body. He does this through a process over time.
However, being a new creation is not merely about the process itself. From the very moment we believe in Jesus, we are already made new; the process is about living out what it means to be a new person. We must receive by faith the truth that we have already been made new.
