Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 2:18~29 - To the Church in Thyatira, adhered to the truth, but where false prophetess was active
Revelation 2:18 – (1) The Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze
☞ <Revelation> 2:18 - "To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.(NIV); And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;(KJV); "Write this letter to the angel of the church in Thyatira. This is the message from the Son of God, whose eyes are like flames of fire, whose feet are like polished bronze.(NLT)
○ Son of God – Note the fact that Jesus calls himself ‘the Son of God’. This is the only place in the entire book of <Revelation> where Christ is called ‘the Son of God’. Therefore, this has a very significant meaning that Jesus emphasizes that He is the ‘Mediator’.
1) As I already mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_180>, during the religious darkness of the Middle Ages (AD 538~1517), even though Jesus Christ is the Son of God and is the mediator between God and all mankind (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 8:6, 9:15, 12:24), but His position as the mediator was taken away by the Roman Catholic Church. With the advent of the Virgin Mary and the priest called the Father as the intercessor as human mediator, people began to be taught to look to Mary and the Father instead of going directly to Jesus Christ.
2) The meaning of the mediator is well defined in <1 Timothy> 2:5, that is, 'Jesus alone is the one who plays the role of establishing the relationship between God and human beings and bringing about reconciliation’. Because the church in Thyatira tolerated (or permitted or accepted) the false prophetess, Jezebel, this woman deprived Jesus of the role of mediator. And in the Middle Ages, Jesus lost the role of mediator to the Roman Catholic.
☞ Therefore, Jezebel and the Roman Catholic were antichrists who betrayed God the Father and Jesus, namely, they were apostates or rebellions. The judgment on this by Jesus Christ is in the next verse as <Revelation> 2:23, it reads “I will strike her children with death.”
