Power english(Marko's cafe)
A: Marko, this cafe is amazing! The decor is incredible and the smell of freshly roasted coffee is so relaxing.
B: When I was planning everything, I realized that the atmosphere of a place involves all the senses.
A: It just dawned on me that the bird sounds are coming from your speakers.
B: Just wait until you taste my free-trade coffee from South America.
A: You really went all out when you designed this place./ B: That's the only way to stand out from the crowd.
A: Good morning, Marko! I almost walked right by, but the smell of freshly roasted coffee pulled me in.
B: Yeah, I set up the ventilation from the roasting to blow out in front of the cafe.
A: Well, since you captured me with your ventilation trick, I guess I'll get something./ B: Do you want the usual? Triple shot cappuccino?
A: You remembered my drink! I'm impressed./ B: I'm impressed that you can drink a triple shot and still function-it packs a punch.
A: Hey, Marko! What's this you're giving me?
B: It's one of my homemade scones. I just added them to the menu along with gluten free chocolate chip cookies.
A: Thank you. Marko! You're just full of surprises/B: I'm thinking of selling pre-made sandwiches, too. But I don't want to get in over my head.
A: You might also want to consider selling kombucha. I think it fits in with the theme of this cafe.
B: I'm already talking to someone who can make it and bottle it for me.
A: So, what made you decide to sell only fair trade coffee and organic, homemade pastries?
B: Because I wanted to wake up every day proud of myself knowing I'm engaging in the most ethical business I could create.
A: This is a big change from your previous career in banking.
B: Yeah, that's another reason. I was running myself into the ground in that job.
A: It's great that you got out of that and into something you seem to love.
B: That's true. And it's great to have great friends like you stopping by.
Power english(Let's dance)
A: Lana, what are you so dressed up for?
B: These are my dancing clothes! I'm meeting some people over 40 who love to work up a sweat on the dance floor
A: Is it at a nightclub or something?
B: No, we go to Papa's Greek Restraurant every Monday when they're closed and use their banquet hall.
A: I'd be afraid I'd throw my back out! It must be a bunch of really good dancers like you.
B: No, we get people from all walks of life coming to dance. You should come, too./ A: Shaw I'm so glad you decided to come tonight.
B: When you described this weekly event and explained how it doesn't feel like a nightclub, I was intrigued.
A: Well let's get our groove on. Do you know how to swing dance or jive?/ B: A little bit, but go easy on me. It's been a while.
A: Of course! And you don't have to only dance with me. Put yourself out there and find a partner.
B: Thanks, Lana! Anyway , I think that guy has been waiting to dance with you.
A: Hey, Shaw! You know. I thought you were going to be a no-show tonight.
B: Are you joking? I haven't had so much fun in a long time as I did last week.
A: You were dancing like there was no tomorrow. You seem to like 80s music the best.
B: What can I say, Duran Duran and Prince always get me on the dance floor.
A: I like 90s pop music more. But Madonna always gets me excited.
B: I'm just glad the DJ played a good assortment of music for our generation.
A: You know, after last week's dance meetup, I felt so alive the next day.
B: I find that it fills a void for me. It reminds me of a time when I felt carefree.
A: It takes me back to my college days when I'd go to the clubs every weekend./B: I really get caught up in the moment when I'm dancing
A: Whatever it's doing to me, I like it. I can never thank you enough for inviting me to dance./ B: It's my pleasure!
Power english(half marathon)
Z: Guess what, Ivan! I signed up for a half marathon in Augoust.
I: That's great, but you don't even run. How do you expect to be ready for such a serious race in eight weeks?
Z: I was hoping you could make a training plan to put me on the fast track.
I: Meet me tomorrow at 7:00 am, so I can assess your fitness level./ Z: I promise, I won't let you down.
I: If I give you a training plan, you have to follow it to the letter. okay?/ Z: So, how do you think my training is going?
I: After looking at the data from the running app on your watch, it looks like four miles is tiring you out. You really slow down after that.
Z: It's still early. I'll continue to build up my endurance for the race.
I: Yeah, but it looks like you've plateaued. I want you to take the next two days off./ Z: But won't that set me back with my training?
I: Not at all. Rest is an importantant part of the process, You'll see.
Z: Ivan, you were right about the importance of rest. I've been doing so much better since then.
I: You still have two weeks until the race, so I added two back-to-back 8 mile days to your training plan.
Z: How will I know how fast to go? Or should I just focus on finishing?
I: Rest assured. I'll be there both days to make sure you maintain a good pace.
Z: Should I think about adding extra training sessions before the race?/I: No, we're actually going to taper off the training a week before.
Z: I'm really nervous, Ivan. Thanks for coming with me to the race./ I: I see you've replaced your worn-out shoes.
I hope you ran in them a little bit. There's nothing worse than getting blisters during a race./Z: Yeah, I broke them in around my neighborhood.
I: Then you're going to do great. Remember, don't feel like you have to catch up to everyone who passes you. Run your own race!
Z: I will. I remember everything you taught me.. I: I'll be waiting for you at the finish! Good luck!
