Summary:
Paul appeals to the Corinthians with the meekness and gentleness of Christ, addressing accusations that he is bold in letters but weak in person. He clarifies that although he lives in the world, he does not wage war according to worldly methods. The weapons of his warfare are divinely powerful, capable of destroying strongholds - specifically arguments and lofty opinions raised against the knowledge of God. Paul describes this spiritual battle as taking every thought captive to obey Christ and being ready to discipline disobedience once obedience is fully established.
Teaching:
It says that God’s power destroys everything. It tears down all worldly knowledge, experience, and even systems. God brings down all pride.
He makes all human theories and knowledge foolish and shatters arrogance. God’s power - that is, the work of the Holy Spirit—takes us captive and brings us into obedience to Christ.
Therefore, God’s power captures every thought, every theory, every experience, and everything we think we know, and places them under God’s authority.
Paul declares at spiritual warfare is won by the power of God.
