Hi, Park,
Both explanations are correct and are simply giving different
reasons for Rp, the parallel tank resistance, to be there.
In the first case, all tuned circuits have some loss resistance
which partly determines their impedance at resonance. In the
particular case of the quadrature tank this can be represented as
a pure resistance in series with Cs (the reactance of Lp and Cp
canceling each other out). So by choosing the values of Cs, Lp, Cp
and taking into account the coil loss resistance, it is possible
to have the necessary 90-degree phase shift at resonance that the
circuit needs. If the parallel circuit were completely lossless
by-the-way, there would be no phase-shift whatever because the
tank impedance would be infinite.
the parallel tank resistance는 수식해주는거니까 일딴 빼고서 reasons for Rp to be there을 해석하면 'Rp가 거기 있는 이유' 정도일것 같아요..^^ the parallel tank resistance는 Rp에 대한 설명이고..
give[yield, render] a reason for …
to be there같은 표현은 다양하게 해석 됩니다.
Secondly, while there is the effective shunt resistance
mentioned above, this is often too high a value to suit the needed
phase-shift versus frequency characteristic of the detector.
Further, the difference between the ideal characteristic and a
real-life one can be shown to be partly dependent on the square of
the circuit Q. To 'smooth' this out it is common practice to place
a physical resistor in parallel with the tank which is the reason
that many circuits add one. There is the input impedance of one
side of the differential circuit to be taken into account also.
So in summary, there is always a certain amount of shunt
resistance present /and without it /there wouldn't be the needed
90-degrees shift and an extra resistor is usually added to reduce
distortion. This extra resistor also reduces the output from the
detector but this is easily made up.
