Commentary on John 12 (1)
“Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.” (John 12:23)
What is the glory of the Son of man?
He says that his death is the time when he will receive the glory of the Son of man.
In other words, it means that Jesus is now properly the Christ.
This is because only by taking off the flesh can the glorious Christ enter into the people of God.
So Jesus says that the time has come for the Son of man to be glorified.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone: but if it die, it brings for much fruit” (John 12:24).
The one who dies is Jesus.
After Jesus died and came back to life, he has now become Christ according to his word, and through the anointing of the Holy Spirit, he can now sit in the hearts of all who are in Christ.
Hallelujah!
He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.” (John 12:25)
Then, “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: If any man serve me, him will my Father honor.” (John 12:26)
This message to follow me means to live the same way as I do.
So Paul also says in Romans 6:11, Likewise reckon...
In other words, we are told to learn that Jesus died to sin once and for all and lives to God (Romans 6:10) and reckon ourselves as if the Lord died and came back to life.
Jesus does not remain as a corn of wheat, but says, it is expedient for you that I go away.
Why is that so?
This is because the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, comes (John 16:7).
The Lord said, When I remain just a corn, you can hear my words, see the signs and wonders I perform, and see all the wonderful things I do, but I cannot enter into you.
It is not impossible to enter your spirit.
However, because the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, is a spirit, he enters you, and he enters you with my name, that is, with my attributes.
That is why the Lord says, it is expedient for you that I go away. (John 16:7)
If we remain with just a corn of life, we will live one life and it will end.
A person who protects his life wisely is a person who lives his life faithfully.
However, we must not remain only one corn, but scatter ourselves with the Spirit of Jesus Christ, the life of Jesus Christ, and the gospel and truth of Jesus Christ.
Like Apostle Paul, we must scatter ourselves throughout the world with the gospel.
If you spread it, it will also last forever.
We live on this earth and then go away, but if we spread ourselves with the gospel, we will continue to spread throughout the world along with the gospel.
Now that the gospel is being spread throughout the world, Paul is being spread along with the gospel.
That is why it is said that the ship carrying Paul was a ship carrying the five oceans and six continents.
That is why an evangelist must not remain a corn of his life.
The reason you want to remain as a corn of wheat is because your own life.
Life is pride.
That's why there are so many people who, out of pride, try to protect the alabaster shell and remain nothing more than a corn of wheat.
Looking at the alabaster boxes of the body, it seems like it's nothing special.
There are many people who are unable to break the alabaster box and remain as a corn of wheat.
But why can’t we break the alabaster box of the body?
Because we have not yet seen the glory of God.
That is why people thoroughly decorate and take care of their bodies, thinking that the alabaster box, which is the shell of their bodies, is their glory.
The ointment in the alabaster box is glorious.
There is an incident at the beginning of Chapter 12 where Mary anointed the ointment sold for three hundred pence on the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair.
That is, because Mary finally saw the glory of God as He said, by the Lord who brought her brother back to life, she wasted (?) her ointment, which was like her own life.
For David, who saw the glory of God, it didn't matter if his pants fell down.
Because his reputation is not his glory.
King David's glory was the Ark of the Covenant.
It is the ark of the covenant, the throne of the Lord.
The very temple of the Lord was his glory.
The Lord was David's glory.
For David, kingship is not his glory.
Even the name of the invincible general was not David's glory.
The cheers and applause of the people were not his glory.
After living without the Ark of the Covenant, he realized that it was impossible.
So this ark of the covenant was David's glory.
That is why the king of a country walks six steps, bows down before the Ark of the Covenant, bows, and praises.
To others and to his wife Michal, David seemed completely crazy.
But for David, the king's reputation had already fallen far from his glory.
Now David knows that "I have received the Lord who is my glory. The glory is returning to me."
That is why David thought that it was not a big deal and it was not something to worry about, no matter what happened to the clothes.
He is a senior of great faith.
Many people think that what little they have now is their glory because they have never heard the gospel of Christ and made the attributes of Christ their own.
Therefore, they always remain as a corn of wheat.
Just like a single grain…
This problem is my concern, and I think it is your concern as well.
However, if we hand over the word of truth that we have to others, we will flow along with that word through history.
It will flow until the end of the world.
To do that work, God called us as his servants.
And we were sent throughout the world as ministers of the Lord's gospel.
We live as strangers in this world, take one dot and leave.
But that is not the end for us.
Our hard work, sowing the seeds with love and tears along with the gospel we have scattered, will one day reap the harvest with joy.
