How to Please God
Wednesday, September 27, 2017
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
This is what the ancients were commended for.” (Hebrews 11:1-2 NIV)
[All of the people /listed in Hebrews chapter 11] were special to God for one reason: their faith.
Did they make mistakes?
Of course! Samson is part of that list,
and he had to face some hard consequences /due to the error of his ways.
The same goes for King David.
* go for; Informal To have a special liking for:
But they were all mentioned and commended by God,
not because they had some special gifting or tried hard to live a good life.
They stood out to God because, ultimately, they trusted in him.
You may be sincere, you may cry a bucket of tears, you may promise to live a holy life;
but without faith, without that trust, it’s impossible to please God.
We read in 1 Peter that Christians are kept every day by the power of God through faith (1 Peter 1:5).
Then why aren’t all Christians kept the same way? Why do some live especially Christ-like lives?
It’s not because of something in themselves. Yes, the power of the Holy Spirit is in them /as in all Christians,
but what connects them to that power? Faith!
A lot of us – Christian leaders and lay people alike – live our lives /struggling and trying instead of trusting.
We live running hard and being anxious about it /instead of experiencing this release of trusting God,
which is what God wants us to do.
Our heavenly Father knows that this is the only way () we will live victorious, fulfilled lives in Christ,
and this pleases him.
If you are struggling in your faith today, tell the Lord about it.
He will help you to live that life of trust //that is pleasing to him.
Read Hebrews 11.
