☞ Revelation 2:20 - Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.(NIV); Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.(KJV); "But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman - that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet - to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols.(NLT)
○ Who was Jezebel? Roman Catholic in the Middle Age – Honestly speaking, I have failed to clarify exactly who Jezebel was, the false prophetess, accepted by the church of Thyatira in the Apostolic Church Age (AD 27~100). I have also failed to identify specifically who this woman was in the millennium of the Middle Ages as the dark age of religion (AD 538~1517).
☞ However, what is clear is that the church in Thyatira accepted this woman as a prophetess, and she misled the servants of Jesus into sexual immorality and idolatry. So, the reason why this ‘woman’ of the church in Thyatira was given the name of Jezebel is because her evil behavior was similar to that of the wife of King Ahab (reigned BC 874~BC 853) mentioned in the Old Testament. Thus, in Christianity, a person compared to Jezebel is either a pagan or an apostate masquerading as a servant of God. In a word, such a person or an apostate is the antichrist as a false prophet or a false prophetess.
☞ As I mentioned in <Bible Matrix ⑦_179> and <Bible Matrix ⑦_180>, from this point of view, Roman Catholic, which drove the churches into the dark age (AD 538~1,517), was Jezebel and the antichrist.
○ Toleration or permission – The problem of the church in Thyatira was generosity. The word of ‘generosity’ means ‘allowance or permission’ or ‘toleration or acceptance’. The specific meaning of ‘toleration’ is 'compromising’.
☞ As we examined in <Bible Matrix ⑦_149>, the church of Ephesus could not ‘tolerate’ the wicked men and false apostles (Revelation 2:2), and in the church of Pergamum, the church members themselves chose the teachings of paganism, so there were those who hold to the teaching of Balaam and Nocolaitans (Revelation 2:15), but the church of Thyatira accepted Jezebel called a prophetess by the decision of the church leaders, not the church members.
☞ This means that Roman Catholic compromised with the Roman Empire, that is, with politics, and accepted pagan gods, pagan doctrines, pagan rituals, and pagan customs.
