The thing that stands out the most about Korea’s geography is that it’s very mountainous. In fact 70 percent of Korea is covered with mountains. Most of the mountains don’t have high altitudes, but the mountains are especially beautiful in fall when the tree leaves change color. Since Korea is a peninsula, it is also surrounded by water on three sides. This means Korea also has a lot of coastlines and beaches. Sandy beaches, like Haeundae in Busan, are popular places to visit in summer, but many rocky beaches on the west coast are also nice. Korea also has tons of islands on the south and west coasts. There are many rivers too in Korea. The most famous one is Han-gang, which flows through the middle of Seoul.

For the Korean Noblesse Oblige
One of the richest people in the world, Warren Edward Buffett, the president of Berkshire Hathaway, announced he would 1) distribute 37 billion dollars forward 5 charitable organizations. The amount reaches 85% of Warren’s property and it is the largest as the sum of donation. He said that his wife passed away 2 years ago and he had thought about their donation continuously, but he delayed it till the amount became the largest. And now, he plans to distribute his stocks to the Bill & Melinda Gate Foundation, Susan Tomson Buffett Foundation, and 3 other 2) charitable organizations managed by his children.
Surprisingly, most will be donated to the richest foundation, Bill and his wife’s foundation. Bill Gates, the president of Microsoft, is well known for the richest person in the world and his charity too. As he made lots of money, he also returned it to the society through his foundation. He established his own charitable organization which is the largest foundation in the world in 1994. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has worked for AIDS elimination, and children education. In addition, Bill said he would leave MS to concentrate on his foundation few days ago.
Like above cases, donation is meaningful and very import!ant in the U.S., and these great presidents who mentioned above have emphasized it at all times. So far, they opposed the abolition of 3) inheritance tax most strongly, and both said that 4) bequeathing a large amount of money to their children is not good for them. As a result, they won respect from others, and influenced on the donation culture of the U.S. Beside these familiar presidents, there were a lot of enterprisers who played a major role on the U.S. donation culture - Andrew Carnegie, John Rockefeller, and Henry Ford and so on. They made money toughly, and then gave it back to the society generously.
At this moment, we cannot help comparing this with our situation. In Korea, it is hard to face with the news about a huge donation. Even in the case of 5)seasonal charity, it is distributed by companies, not the rich. This means there are some enterprises which give back its benefit to the society, but there is no enterpriser who returns money which he made in the society.
Even though we can see Samsung and Hyundai president’s family distributed a large amount of money, people think that they have another purpose, such as calming down public criticism. Like this, donation in Korea demands compensation. They distribute to 6) cover up their trouble, avoid inheritance tax or punishment, but this distribution cannot be justified.
What is worse, most Korean rich people are eager to hold their property with every possible means. While Warren and Bill have the idea they should give back their money with responsibility, Korean enterprisers traditionally tend to think it is import!ant to inherit the right of management and the wealth. As a result, they try every means available to hold their property. It makes many companies be 7) implicated in a tax 8) dodging case. This can be a danger to Korean capitalism.
Of course, we cannot demand the rich or enterprises to contribute their money. However, they should know what is actually good for the society and themselves. Then, we will need to consider how to develop the Korean donation culture.
