<P>Roh Moo-hyun's coffin left his hometown of Bongha earlier on Friday for the funeral in Seoul, some 450km (280 miles) away.</P>

<P>His widow, children and close relatives led the procession from Bongha to the funeral service<BR>in Seoul's Gyeongbok Palace, which was attended by some 3,000 people.</P>

<P>But he became embroiled in scandal after his family was accused of taking bribes from a wealthy shoe manufacturer. <BR>He denied any personal wrongdoing but apologised on behalf of his family.</P>

<P>Later in the afternoon, Mr Roh's supporters began to confront the thousands of riot police out on the streets of Seoul. <BR>The huge number of mourners delayed the hearse from leaving the city.</P>
