Summary:
Paul explains that he is in prison because of his work on behalf of the Gentiles. He describes how God entrusted him with a special responsibility: to make known the grace given to him for their sake. Paul says that God revealed a mystery to him - something not fully understood in previous generations, but now made known through the Spirit to Christ’s holy apostles and prophets.
This mystery is that Gentiles are now included as full heirs with the Jewish believers: they share the same body and the same promises through Christ. Paul emphasizes that he became a servant of this message only because of God’s grace and power working in him.
Teaching:
Centered on Jesus, the cornerstone, we must shape both the structure and the substance of our faith. Without Jesus, nothing stands. The revelation given by the Holy Spirit to the holy apostles and prophets is entirely the mystery of Christ - and this mystery has now been made known to us.
For men to grow strong in faith, they need to know the Word and make a deliberate, rational decision to believe in Jesus—this is often how men come to believe. Then through prayer, the Word they have read becomes clear, moving their hearts with understanding.
Win people. And to win people, we must discipline our bodies and bring ourselves under control just as Jesus did. We must place ourselves within the pattern of Christ’s death and resurrection, receive the Holy Spirit, and live by the Spirit.
We should examine ourselves by asking how many people we have truly gained.
