Summary:
Paul urges believers to live in a way that reflects the calling they have received from God. He describes this kind of life as one marked by humility, gentleness, patience, and love—bearing with one another rather than causing division. He stresses the importance of actively preserving unity, a unity that comes from the Spirit and is held together by peace.
Paul then grounds this call to unity in what believers share: there is one body of believers, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God who stands above all, works through all, and lives within all who belong to Him. This shared reality becomes the foundation for a life of unity and faithfulness.
Teaching:
We are called to preserve the unity that the Holy Spirit has created. The Holy Spirit dwells among us to make us one with God; He is present to keep us in Christ and in the Word.
The fullness of the Holy Spirit always brings unity among God’s holy people, even those who are different from one another. He binds us together with the bond of peace—indeed, with the bond of love.
Let us remember that without the Holy Spirit, we cannot enter into Christ, nor can we carry out the work to which God has called us.
