Summary:
Wives are instructed to be subject to their own husbands as to the Lord, because the husband is described as the head of the wife just as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. The relationship is presented in parallel with Christ and the church: as the church is subject to Christ, so also wives are to be subject to their husbands in everything.
Teaching:
In the order established by Scripture, the husband is the head. This does not mean that the wife is a servant. Rather, in the order of the family, it means that the wife is to respect her husband as she would the Lord.
This means that she is to respect her husband regardless of whether he possesses character traits or conduct that seem worthy of respect.
The order of the church, which is the body of Christ, is to be reflected in the order of the family; and the order of the family is also to be reflected in the order of the church. Therefore, a church worker should be one whose household is properly ordered.
In everything, wives are to submit to their own husbands in the Lord. That is, “in the Lord” means not doing what displeases God; aside from that, they are to submit to their husbands.
