[호주유학/생활영어] thank you 와 thanks 의 차이

어제 무한도전을 보다가 thank you 와 thanks 의 차이점에 대해서 나오길래..

혹시나 헷갈리시는 분들을 위해 알려드릴게요^^

예사말과, (반말)

존댓말의 차이가 아닐까 싶네요.

thanks는 고마워, 고맙다. 친한 사람이나 가볍게 고맙다는 마음을 전할때..

thank you는 고마워요. 윗 사람이나 나보다 나이가 많은 사람한테 쓰는 표현

다음으로 thank you 와 appreciate 의 차이점을 알아볼게요.

Thank you (also Thanks) is the usual way of expressing gratitude to someone.
"That was a delicious lunch, thank you."
"Here's your coffee." "Thank you very much"
-고마움을 표현하는 평범한 방법.-
그냥 고맙긴 한데 단순하고 평범한 상황에서 쓰이죠.

You can use appreciate when you are thanking someone or showing that you are grateful.
We really appreciate all the help you gave us last weekend. [T]
I appreciate your making the effort to come.
-역시 고마움을 표현할때 쓰는데 상대방의 노력을 이해하는것-
상대의 노력, 수고, 를 이해하면서 고마움을 표현 하는거죠.

만일 친구가 자판기 커피를 빼주면 고맙죠(thank),
그런데 친구집에 갔는데 커피가 떨어져서 친구가 슈퍼까지 가서
사오고 또 맛있게 타준다면 (appreciate) 해야겠죠.

Some more examples:

Thank you for your help.

I appreciate everything you have done for the company.

- Would you like some more gravy?
- Yes, thank you.

- Would you like some help on your project?
- Yes, thank you. I would really appreciate it.

I would appreciate it if you kept me informed of any changes.

I would appreciate it if you kept your opinions to yourself. (<- stern, not friendly)

I will thank you to keep your opinions to yourself. (<- even less friendly, quite possibly rude; condescending at the least)

I did not appreciate being told to keep my opinions to myself.

He thanked me in a letter. I appreciated the gesture.


그리고 thank 다음엔 사람이 오고요,
appreciate 다음엔 행동(고마운)이 오지요,위 예문 보시면 알수 있습니다.
