Commentary on John 14 (2)
Chapter 14 of John is a word that raises the eyes that looked at Jesus in the flesh to the level of the Spirit of truth.
Chapter 14 of John contains the Lord's answer to the three men's questions.
John 13 is the story of Judas Iscariot and Peter, and John 14 is the question of Thomas, Philip, and another Judas, not Iscariot and the Lord's answer to them.
Let’s take a look at the question of Thomas, the first questioner.
Verse 5, “Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’”
In other words, he is asking where the Lord is going, that is, the place and the way to get there.
It asks about the destination Jesus Christ wants to go to and how to get there.
Where is Jesus Christ going now?
According to John 14:2, Jesus Christ is now going to his father's house.
But the way is answered in John 14:6
“Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.”
It is said that the way or the method is "me".
The Lord says that he is the way to get there, the truth, and the life.
In chapter 10 of John, Jesus Christ said that he is the door.
The door is to realize the way and truth.
But it is not a door through which the body enters.
Understanding the words of Christ through the illumination of the Holy Spirit becomes the gate for the sheep.
Realizing the words of Christ through the illumination of the Holy Spirit becomes the gate for the sheep.
So in John 9, Jesus spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.
Isn't a person born blind the same whether he has eyes or not?
It has no eyes.
Jesus made again these eyes.
After that, the sheep gate in chapter 10 can be seen.
It means that I realized it.
This means that when we realize the Word, we enter into him and Jesus Christ becomes the shepherd of our souls.
Our Lord Jesus Christ says in John 14 that I am the way, that is, the method.
This means that if you learn the way in detail, you will know the truth.
And once you know the truth, Jesus Christ becomes your life.
When he becomes one with the Lord and receives the life of God, he meets his Father, who is the same life.
Therefore, ‘I am the method.’ I am the way, the truth, and the life. therefore, he says, ‘No one comes to the Father except through me.’
Jesus is now going to his father’s house.
As he went to his Father's house, he said, If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:3)
And you know the way to the place where I am going. (John 14:4)
Here the Lord said, “whither I go you know, and the way you know.
So what Thomas says first is where are you going? How to go there?
In other words, Thomas's idea is to tell us about a place that can be seen with the naked eye and a way to get there with the body.
However, Jesus Christ gives an irrelevant answer, says that he himself is the method.
He says, ‘I am the way. If you know me, you will find a way. You know the truth.’
And it is said that if you know the truth, you will be free, and those who were bound to death will be freed and will eat from the tree of life.
If you eat from the tree of life, you will meet the Father.
All living creatures communicate with each other through same life.
All things must have the same life to communicate with each other.
Because humans have different lives from animals, that is, because their genes are different, we cannot communicate with them.
The reason the kingdom of heaven only gathers those whose names are written in the Book of Life is because it would be difficult if they could not communicate with each other.
It is a place where only people who have the life of God gather, but if other lives come in, the language in heaven will not be unified, so wouldn't there be an interpreter?
Then the Kingdom of heaven will become a bustling marketplace.
That is why those who are burdened and burdened with the toils of sin and death must meet Jesus Christ.
And only by obtaining the life of the Lord can one be qualified to enter the Father's house.
Therefore, as one pastor once said, gaining eternal life is just about receiving a test paper and writing down your name and social security number.
Just because you wrote your name nicely on the test paper and recorded your social security number well, what does that have to do with your test score?
There is no relationship.
However, even though there are tremendous blessings in eternal life, people do not make an effort to enter it and taste his glory and experience riches of his glory.
This is because people believe and follow the teachings created by them.
Since many people follow the path according to people's inheritance and tradition, they think, 'What's the point of me living a religious life differently?' and they follow people's.
However, if you follow people's tradition, the church will look at you cutely.
You are loved by people in high positions. However, if you talk about the Holy Spirit or the truth, you will be rejected.
In one denomination in Korea, professors are kicked out the same day if they talk about the Holy Spirit.
When I was studying for my D.MIN in the United States, I was trying to write a thesis on the Holy Spirit, and a professor in Korea almost urged me to write about practical theology.
If you want to study the bible, you cannot study the bible without talking about the Holy Spirit.
Doctrine and lessons can be taught and learned through rational knowledge, but the truth can never be realized except by the Holy Spirit.
But the problem is that if it is not the truth, it is false, illegal, and delusional.
Nevertheless, if you even talk about the Holy Spirit, you will be kicked out.
‘Until now, we have studied the bible and brought believers to church with things like doctrines, creeds, Westminster catechisms, and the political laws of the denomination, but why do you people so specially talk about the Holy Spirit and the truth?’ like this.
"Why are you bringing up such a story and embarrassing ourself " this is it.
So they drive them out.
Most denominations that promote tradition pressure people to line up and follow in their footsteps.
The denomination is the power, right?
Take a look at the seminary professors.
Professors are pastors themselves, and I am also a pastor, but if I give a counterargument to theological talks or church education, etc., the professors feel very offended.
In short, the seminary professors think that we are absolute, so they just carry on with the ministry as we teach them, so where can they bring that and cause trouble?
So, while I was studying commentary of 1 Corinthians, I had a debate with a seminary professor about whether love was a noun or a verb.
I saw the professor blush and rationalize some nonsense.
The current situation in the religious world has become all about the inertia of standing in line and following along.
Everything has been smothered by tradition.
And if you look at the faces of professors at seminaries in Korea, all professors who are spiritual and who care about theology and spirituality with a longing for the Lord are pushed out.
Is it a lie? Take a look at the Korean seminary scene.
They use any means to criticize those who have the truth and living words and eventually drive them out.
This is the reality of the Korean church right now.
