Why must we repent? Because it is the key that brings both spiritual blessings and physical blessings. So, how do heavenly blessings and earthly blessings come when we repent? Invisible forces—demons—are involved. Especially the work of demons passed down from ancestors makes life difficult for me and my descendants. So, how can we remove the curses, poverty, and sickness passed down by our ancestors? Here lies the answer.

Why must we repent? Because it is the key that brings both spiritual blessings and earthly blessings. So, how do heavenly blessings and earthly blessings come when we repent? Invisible forces—demons—are involved. Especially, the legacy of demons passed down from ancestors burdens me and my descendants. So, how can we remove the curses, poverty, and sickness inherited from ancestors? Here lies the answer.

1. Introduction

Why must people repent for their ancestors' sins and confess their own sins one by one? And why, when spirits depart from a person's body, do illnesses heal, poverty end, children's affairs prosper, deception cease, and blessings of prosperity come? We need to investigate at least once how confessing the sins of our ancestors and our own personal sins through repentance and confession profoundly benefits both ourselves and our descendants. Therefore, in this sixth session on why we must repent, we will examine the four benefits that occur when we repent.

2. What happens when a person commits sin?

When a person commits sin, discipline and curses follow (Deut. 27:26, 28:15-68). So, what discipline manifests when a person sins? It can generally be categorized into four types: sickness, poverty, curses on one's descendants, and being deceived. Reading Deuteronomy 28 reveals a comprehensive list of curses that manifest when people violate God's word and disobey.

First, they suffer from all kinds of diseases and mental disorders (Deut. 28:20-22, 27-29, 34-35, 58-61). It specifically states that these diseases are severe and prolonged (Deut. 28:5). In other words, when people sin, they become afflicted with incurable and rare diseases that are difficult to heal. Hospitals may find nothing wrong, yet they continue to suffer. And if such sin is committed on a national scale, entire villages and nations can be laid waste by war, famine, and epidemics.

Second, they become impoverished. This is because the land's produce yields less due to famine, and livestock perish from plagues (Deut. 28:15-19).

Third, their descendants are cursed (Deut. 28:18a). When people sin, their children are taken captive, sold into slavery, or killed in battle. They may also become unable to bear children, leading to a scarcity of descendants.

Fourth, they continually fall victim to deception. Whenever they meet people, they inevitably encounter deceivers and suffer loss. However, in the New Testament era, it is revealed that demons are behind all these events.

3. Why do so many demonic activities appear in the New Testament era when demons do not appear in the Old Testament era?

In the Old Testament era, the term “demon (daimonion)” does not appear at all (though it is mistranslated and appears twice), and demonic activity is scarcely witnessed. Nevertheless, a representative case where demonic activity is observed is that of the spirit summoned by the medium of Endor (appearing disguised as Samuel) (1 Samuel 28:3-25). However, in the New Testament era, demonic activity increases tremendously. Why is that? It is likely because, shortly before Jesus' birth, a major rebellion of angels occurred in heaven, resulting in Satan and his followers being cast out of heaven by Michael and his angels (Revelation 12:1-5, Luke 10:18-19).

Thus, the angels cast out of heaven were cursed at that moment and transformed into serpents, while some of the higher-ranking ones became dragons. Among them was the greatest dragon, who is Satan the devil, also known as Lucifer. Therefore, in the New Testament era, demonic activity is observed very frequently. This is because, just before Jesus' birth, there was an organized crime leading to their fall and expulsion from heaven. Thus, Satan's kingdom was established. By the time Jesus began His public ministry, the demon king Beelzebub already knew and came to test Him, but failed. From that point on, Jesus began casting out demons. Looking at the four Gospels, it seems about one-third of His public ministry was spent driving out demons. Even when He chose and sent out His disciples, He commanded them to go and call people to repentance, instructing them to drive out demons and heal the sick.

4. What happens in the New Testament era when someone commits sin?

Countless angels cast out of heaven (demons) still rise up from the earth, that is, from Hades, to deceive people and lead them into sin. And when people sin, demons enter directly into them. This is because the human body becomes their dwelling place (Matthew 12:43-45). So when they kill a person or cause that person to die, they take his soul to Hades. Therefore, we must understand that when people sin, demons infiltrate their bodies. Moreover, because they were cursed when cast out of heaven, curses also manifest in people. For example, if a demon was blind and deaf when cast out of heaven, the moment it enters a person, that person becomes blind and deaf. But when the demon is driven out of that person, their sight and hearing are restored (Matthew 12:22).

However, all demons that enter a person's body come in the form of a serpent (Luke 10:19, Mark 16:17-18). This is because they were cursed when cast out of heaven, becoming serpents or dragons. Since they were cursed upon being expelled from heaven, when these creatures enter people's bodies, all manner of curses manifest in them. First, sickness arises. The body becomes constantly afflicted with pain. Even if hospitals find nothing wrong, the pain persists. Second, they become impoverished. These creatures sabotage their efforts so they gain nothing despite hard work. They obstruct every endeavor, preventing success. Third, their descendants are cursed. Their children's businesses fail and are constantly plundered. Fourth, they continually fall victim to deception. For demons are deceitful spirits and lying spirits.

5. What happens when a believer repents (confesses)?

However, when believers repent of their ancestors' past sins and confess them, the serpents infiltrating their bodies lose their power and eventually depart. Then, all the misfortunes caused by those serpents—illness, poverty, curses, and being deceived—are removed. Then incurable diseases are healed, material blessings come, everything children do prospers, and they are no longer deceived by others. The blessing of prosperity comes. As the cursed spirits depart, blessings naturally begin to flow in.

6. Conclusion

The joy of believing in Jesus truly lies in repenting, escaping curses, and receiving the blessings of prosperity. Of course, our souls going to heaven after death is the greatest happiness of all. But being able to taste small joys even on this earth is because when we repent, the serpents that entered our bodies are removed one by one. Then, that life that wouldn't unravel, that miserable life, that tangled life, begins to straighten out completely. Because the cursed spirits depart. Therefore, repentance is what we need above all else. When we repent, not only are our sins forgiven, but all the demons within us also depart. Then the curse departs too. And from that moment on, the blessing of prosperity comes to us.

Therefore, whenever you have time, repent. No, make time to repent. Even when you pray, begin with a prayer of repentance. If possible, set a goal to focus 90% on repentance and 10% on petition. If you do not repent, the spirits of the generation in the air and the spirits of the family line will block our prayers, preventing them from ascending to heaven. This is because the prayers we offer are hindered from reaching God by the spirits holding power in the air and the evil spirits in heaven. But try repenting. When you repent, the heavenly pathway opens wide at that very moment. The channel for prayers ascending to heaven opens. Then angels follow that path to carry the prayer to God. Therefore, before offering prayers of petition, first offer prayers of repentance. So, open the heavenly pathway first, then offer your petitions. That's right. Repentance brings forgiveness of sins, blessings, and prosperity. Furthermore, repentance is the key to blessings that opens the heavenly pathway.
