Summary:
The passage continues by calling believers to pray at all times in the Spirit, using every kind of prayer and petition, while remaining alert and persevering in intercession for all the holy people of God. It then turns specifically to Paul, asking that prayer also be made for him, so that when he speaks, he may be given the right words to boldly make known the mystery of the gospel. Though he is an ambassador in chains, he desires prayer so that he may speak that message with the boldness he ought to show.
Teaching:
No matter how much we read the Word, no matter how much knowledge we have about it, no matter how faithfully we attend church, and no matter how kind we are to others or how well people speak of us, if we do not come before God in prayer, no power will come forth. Without the power of the Holy Spirit, we will collapse like a house built on sand.
If we are to put on the full armor of God and wield the sword well, we must pray and make petitions. We must come before God, call on the name of the Lord, and ask for His help.
To make petition is to ask, seek, and knock. It is to pray and make petitions about everything. It is to pray and make supplication in the Spirit.
Among the things we pray for, we must also pray for the holy people of God - that is, we must pray for the church. Church workers must pray for the church. Regardless of title or position, those who have been baptized and saved are church workers, children of God, members of the church, and disciples of Christ.
Become the holy people of God who make
petition for the church.
