Summary:
Paul and Timothy begin by presenting themselves as servants of Christ Jesus. They address all the believers in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons, and open the letter with a blessing of grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Teaching:
n Ephesians, it is both a letter sent to the churches in Ephesus and a message addressed to the faithful in Christ. In Ephesians, Paul intends for his letter to be circulated among the churches and read aloud. Its contents are also largely universal in nature—there is a strong emphasis on ecclesiology, as well as on spiritual warfare and its various aspects.
Philippians, on the other hand, is a letter directed specifically to the church in Philippi. The Philippian church held a special place for Paul personally—it was the first church he planted in Europe. The relationship between Paul and this church was very unique.
In the letter to the Philippian church, Paul’s personal stories appear frequently. The expressions used in its contents are more free and reveal more of Paul’s personal emotions.
Just as each Gospel has its own distinctive features expressed through the overall flow and structure of the narrative, if we receive each of those features carefully one by one, our faith becomes complete.
