Summary:
Paul addresses the believers as his beloved and longed-for brothers and sisters, his joy and crown, and urges them to stand firm in the Lord in this way.
Teaching:
Stand firm” does not mean simply to stand up instead of sitting; it means to remain in Christ. In his epistles, Paul teaches how to remain in Christ.
We must set our minds on the things of heaven and fix our goal on Jesus. Jesus goes before us, and we must follow Him well. To follow Him means to imitate Him.
When people say someone is “acting their age,” it reflects the measure of God’s grace in them. By receiving God’s grace, a person is transformed by the word of grace and truth, and that transformation is what it means to live up to one’s age. And as a person lives this way, the more they continue in church life, the more they live in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
