Summary:
Paul urges Euodia and Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. He also asks a faithful companion to help these women, who have labored side by side with him in the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of his fellow workers, whose names are written in the book of life.
Teaching:
By mentioning Euodia and Syntyche in the passage, it indicates that a problem had arisen in the church, and Paul is exhorting these two women.
It suggests that in the Philippian church, certain female members were exerting influence in a way that was causing difficulty for the church. Rather than forming factions within the church, they must become one in the Lord.
To do that, they must empty and humble themselves, and follow the example of Jesus. When they do as Jesus did, they can become one in the Lord.
