They all were delivered new as Missouri Pacific units, with yellow and gray paint, but MP lettering. They were the first new locomotives of the merged UP and MP. The ex-MP SD50's were prone to overheating, so starting in 1994, UP rebuilt their cooling systems by installing eight-blade cooling fans. Horsepower was also reduced from 3600 to 3500.
