Summary:
Paul says that he has received everything in full and has an abundance because of the gift sent by the Philippians through Epaphroditus. He describes their gift as a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, and pleasing to God. He then assures them that God will supply all their needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Paul concludes by giving glory to God the Father forever and ever.
Teaching:
“In Christ Jesus” is central to Paul’s epistles. Our faith must be in Christ. To be in Christ means that Christ is the realm of our existence. If we are in Christ Jesus, it means that we are united with Christ.
To be in Christ Jesus also means to be blessed. A blessed person is someone who is in Christ. Being in Christ Jesus is the kingdom of God, and the kingdom of God is full of life. Life is abundant, and what we need in life is this abundance. Therefore, being in Christ Jesus speaks of fullness and abundance.
Being in Christ Jesus also means becoming more like Jesus. It refers to the ethics of faith and the way of life that faith produces.
