독후감-Wuthering Heights

2010, June 6, Sunday <Book Report> “Wuthering Heights” John Written By Emily Bronte Publisher Oxford   Summary: This story began from a guest who wanted to stay at the Wuthering Heights. Around the Wuthering Heights, there was very silent. Only two or three houses were there. There was one family, the father was Earnshaw and he had two children named Catherine and Hindley. One day, Earnshaw brought a young boy named Heathcliff who didn’t have parents and he decided that he would let him be servant in the house. But Hindley detested Heathcliff so he always mistreated Heathcliff by his actions and words. Heathcliff wanted to revenge to him. Anyway Heathcliff and Catherine loved each other. But when their mother and father died, Catherine got married with a man named Edgar Linton. Linton really loved her but Catherine did love Heathcliff more. Anyway Catherine gave a birth to her daughter named Cathy. Also Hindley got married and had a son named Hareton. But soon Hindley’s wife died so he got violent. Meanwhile Heathcliff left and disappeared because he was shocked that his lover forsook him. Then after 4 years later, Heathcliff came to Catherine. Then Catherine loved Heathcliff again and she wanted to get married with him but she had a husband already. Heathcliff got married with Isabella who was Linton’s sister even though he didn’t love her to revenge to Catherine. Then when Catherine knew this news, she got shocked and she was sure that she couldn’t be with Heathcliff anymore so she died. After Catherine’s death, Heathcliff realized that he had gone too far and he was a fool. At that time, Isabella gave a birth to a son named Allen. As time had gone, Heathcliff died and Allen and Cathy loved as their parents and they lived happily.   Impression: I think this is a pitiful story. A man and a woman loved each other but they couldn’t be together and they died. At first time, I felt very scared when I was reading this because there were some ghosts in this book at the first part. So I thought it is a scary book but it wasn’t. I really pity on them and I realized that revenge is not good for humans. For me, nowadays, I usually do as others did to me at that time. So when someone teased me, I teased also in other way. But I thought this is just a small thing as revenge. But in Korean proverbs, “the thief who steals needle will steal a cow.” The revenges that I often do are just small things but if I continue to do it maybe it’ll be bigger and bigger. So today I decided not to revenge even just small things. For love, I think I should behave to my future wife later so that she will live happily. I was just reminded that love is to do what others want me to do.
