1. 사탄이 이스라엘을 대적하려고 일어나 다윗을 선동하여 이스라엘의 수를 세게 하니라.

And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

2. 다윗이 요압과 백성의 치리자들에게 이르되, 가서 브엘세바에서부터 단에 이르기까지 이스라엘을 계수하고 그들의 수를 내게로 가져와 내게 알리라, 하니

And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know [it].

3. 요압이 응답하되, {주}께서 자신의 백성을 지금보다 백 배나 많게 하시기를 원하나이다. 하오나 내 주 왕이여, 그들이 다 내 주의 종이 아니니이까? 그런데 내 주께서 어찌하여 이 일을 요구하시나이까? 어찌하여 왕께서 이스라엘에게 범법의 원인이 되려 하시나이까? 하였으나

And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they [be]: but, my lord the king, [are] they not all my lords servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

4. 그럼에도 불구하고 왕의 말이 요압을 이겼으므로 요압이 떠나 온 이스라엘을 두루 다닌 뒤에 예루살렘으로 돌아오니라.

Nevertheless the kings word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

5. 요압이 백성의 수의 총계를 다윗에게 주었는데 이스라엘 중에서 칼을 뺀 자가 모두 백십만 명이요, 유다는 칼을 뺀 자가 사십칠만 명이었더라.

And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all [they of] Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah [was] four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.

6. 그러나 요압이 왕의 말을 가증히 여겼으므로 그들 중에서 레위와 베냐민은 세지 아니하였더라.

But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the kings word was abominable to Joab.

7. [하나님]께서 이 일을 기뻐하지 아니하셨으므로 이스라엘을 치시매

And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. 

8. 다윗이 [하나님]께 아뢰되, 내가 이 일을 행하였으므로 크게 죄를 지었나이다. 그러나 이제 간청하옵나니 주의 종의 불법을 없이 하여 주옵소서. 내가 심히 어리석게 행하였나이다, 하니라.

And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

9. {주}께서 다윗의 선견자 갓에게 말씀하여 이르시되,

And the LORD spake unto Gad, Davids seer, saying,

10. 가서 다윗에게 고하여 이르기를, {주}가 이같이 말하노라. 내가 네게 세 가지를 주노니 너는 그 가운데 하나를 택하라. 내가 그것을 네게 행하리라, 하라.

Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three [things]: choose thee one of them, that I may do [it] unto thee. 

11. 이에 갓이 다윗에게 나아가 그에게 이르되, {주}께서 이같이 말씀하시기를, 너는 택하라.

So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee 

12. 삼 년 동안 기근이 들게 할 것인지 혹은 석 달 동안 네 원수들의 칼이 너를 따라잡아 네가 네 원수들 앞에서 패하게 될 것인지 혹은 {주}의 칼 곧 역병이 사흘 동안 이 땅에 있어 {주}의 천사가 이스라엘 온 지역을 두루 멸하게 할 것인지 택하라, 하시나니 그러므로 이제 나를 보내신 분에게 내가 무슨 말을 다시 전해야 할지 친히 알려 주소서, 하매

Either three years famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh [thee]; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.

13. 다윗이 갓에게 이르되, 내가 큰 곤경에 빠졌도다. {주}의 긍휼은 심히 크니 이제 내가 그분의 손에 빠지고 사람의 손에 빠지지 아니하기를 원하노라, 하니라.

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great [are] his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man. 

14. 이에 {주}께서 이스라엘 위에 역병을 보내시니 이스라엘 중에서 칠만 명이 쓰러지니라.

So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

15. [하나님]께서 예루살렘을 멸하시려고 한 천사를 그곳에 보내셨는데 그가 멸할 때에 {주}께서 보시고 그 재앙에서 뜻을 돌이키사 백성을 멸한 천사에게 이르시되, 족하다. 이제 네 손을 멈추라, 하시거늘 그때에 {주}의 천사가 여부스 족속 오르난의 타작마당 옆에 섰더라.

And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. 

16. 다윗이 눈을 들어 보매 {주}의 천사가 땅과 하늘 사이에 섰고 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 예루살렘을 향해 내밀었으므로 그때에 다윗과 이스라엘의 장로들이 굵은 베옷을 입고 얼굴을 대고 엎드리니라.

And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders [of Israel, who were] clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

17. 다윗이 [하나님]께 아뢰되, 명령을 내려 백성의 수를 세게 한 자는 바로 내가 아니니이까? 바로 내가 죄를 짓고 참으로 악을 행하였나이다. 하오나 이 양들로 말하건대 그들이 무슨 일을 하였나이까? 원하건대 오 {주} 내 [하나님]이여, 주의 손을 나와 내 아버지 집 위에 두시고 주의 백성 위에 두지 마셔서 그들이 재앙을 받지 않게 하옵소서, 하니라.

And David said unto God, [Is it] not I [that] commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but [as for] these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my fathers house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.

18. 그때에 {주}의 천사가 갓에게 명령하여 다윗에게 이르기를 다윗은 올라가 여부스 족속 오르난의 타작마당에서 {주}께 제단을 쌓으라고 하시므로

Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

19. 갓의 말 곧 그가 {주}의 이름으로 말한 말대로 다윗이 올라가니라.

And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.

20. 이제 오르난이 밀을 타작하다가 몸을 돌이켜서 천사를 보고 자기와 함께한 네 아들과 함께 숨었더라.

And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. 

21. 다윗이 오르난에게 나아가매 오르난이 바라보다가 다윗을 보고 타작마당에서 나아가 얼굴을 땅에 대고 다윗에게 절하니라.

And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with [his] face to the ground.

22. 그때에 다윗이 오르난에게 이르되, 이 타작마당이 있는 곳을 내게 넘기라. 내가 그 안에서 {주}께 제단을 쌓으리니 너는 충분한 값을 받고 그것을 내게 넘길지니라. 그리하면 재앙이 백성에게서 떠나고 그치리라, 하매

Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of [this] threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people. 

23. 오르난이 다윗에게 이르되, 왕은 그것을 취하소서. 내 주 왕은 왕의 눈에 좋은 것을 행하소서. 보소서, 내가 또한 소들은 번제 헌물로 타작하는 기구는 나무로 밀은 음식 헌물로 삼으시도록 왕에게 드리나니 곧 내가 그것을 다 드리나이다, 하매

And Ornan said unto David, Take [it] to thee, and let my lord the king do [that which is] good in his eyes: lo, I give [thee] the oxen [also] for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.

24. 다윗 왕이 오르난에게 이르되, 아니라. 내가 참으로 충분한 값을 주고 그것을 사리라. 내가 {주}께 드리려고 네 것을 취하지 아니할 것이며 값을 치르지 않고서는 번제 헌물을 드리지도 아니하리라, 하니라.

And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take [that] which [is] thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

25. 이처럼 다윗이 그 장소를 사려고 금 육백 세겔을 달아 오르난에게 주니라.

So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.

26. 다윗이 거기서 {주}께 제단을 쌓고 번제 헌물과 화평 헌물을 드리며 {주}를 부르니 그분께서 하늘로부터 번제 헌물 제단 위에 불을 내려 그에게 응답하시고

And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.

27. {주}께서 천사에게 명령하시매 그가 다시 자기 칼을 칼집에 꽂았더라.

And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.

28. 그때에 다윗이 {주}께서 여부스 족속 오르난의 타작마당에서 자기에게 응답하시는 것을 보고는 거기서 희생물을 드렸으니

At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.

29. 이는 모세가 광야에서 만든 {주}의 성막과 번제 헌물 제단이 그때에 기브온의 산당에 있었으나

For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, [were] at that season in the high place at Gibeon.

30. 다윗이 {주}의 천사의 칼로 인해 두려워서 감히 그것 앞에 가서 [하나님]께 여쭙지 못하였기 때문이더라.

But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
