  Level 11 : Cheok-bang(斥謗,척방)... Repelling and warding off slander... Item No. 297.

斥謗(척방)은 착함을 해치는 헐뜯는 소리를 물리치는 것이다.

  Cheok-bang(斥謗,척방) means repelling slanderous remarks that harm goodness.

성품이 치우친 바가 있다 해도 한가지 착함을 보고 백가지 헐뜯는 소리를 물리치고
한가지 착함을 듣고 백가지 헐뜯는 소리를 물리친다.

  Even if a person′s disposition has its biases, upon seeing a single act of goodness,

  one repels a hundred slanderous words;

  and upon hearing a single good thing, one repels a hundredd slanderous words.

정도에 지나침이 있다 해도 착함이 더 해지지 헐뜯는 소리를 따르지 않음은
천성이 견고한 것으로 가히 그 福(복)을 받을 수 있다.

  Even if there is excess, goodness remains greater; not following slanderous words shows 

  that one′s innste nature is solid and firm, making one worthy of receiving blessings.

斥謗者는 斥害善之謗也라 (척방자는 척해선지방야라)
  Cheok-bang(斥謗,척방 - Repelling Slander) refers to repelling slanderousremarks that harm goodness.

性僻이라도 見一善百謗斥之하며 (성벽이라도 견일선백방척지하며)

  Even if one′s  disposition is biased, upon seeing a single act of goodness,

  one repels a hundred slanders; 

聞一善百謗斥之하고  (문일선백방척지하고)

  and upon hearing a single good thing, one repels a hundred slanders.

甚則益於善亦不從이나  (십즉익어선역부종이나)

  Even when slander becomes exxtreme, goodness is further enhanced,

  and one still does not follw the slander;

天性之固也라 可領其福이니라. (천성지고야라 가령기복이니라.)

  This shows the firm strenght of one′s innate nature, making one worthy of receiving blessings.

 [Explanation, 풀이]

세상일에서 진실로 원하는 한가지를 얻기 위하여서는 아흔 아홉 가지를 희생하여야만 그 한가지를 얻을 수 있다.

  To obtain the one thing you truly desire in worldly matters,

   you can only gain that one thing by sacrificing ninety- nine other things.

 
善(선)은 인간으로 하여금 하나님(一神,일신)이 될 수 있게하는 무한한 가치를 지닌 것이다.

  Goodness(善,선) holds infinite value, enabling humans to become one with Hananim

   (一神,일신 - The Supreme God).

따라서 그것을 얻기 위해 다른 모든 것을 희생한다 해도 전혀 이상할 것이 없다. 

  Therefore, sacrificing everything else to attain it is not strange in the slightest.
