Bible Matrix ⑦: Historical & Scientific Views on Daniel and Revelation
Part 2. Revelation
Revelation 2:18~29 - To the Church in Thyatira, adhered to the truth, but where false prophetess was active
Revelation 2:22~23 – I will cast her into a bed of suffering, those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, I will strike her children dead
☞ <Revelation> 2:22 - So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways.(NIV); Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.(KJV); "Therefore, I will throw her on a bed of suffering(1), and those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly unless they repent and turn away from her evil deeds. / (1)Greek a bed (NLT)
2:23 - I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.(NIV); And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.(KJV); I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve.(NLT)
○ ‘A bed of suffering’ means to be cast from ‘a bed of adultery’ to ‘suffering’, that is, ‘a bed of pain’. ‘A bed of pain’ means ‘a bed of sick’. It is to change from a sex bed of joy to a painful and afflicted bed like a sick bed. Please read 'a bed of pain' in <Job> 33:19~22.
○ Then, 'a bed of suffering’ also means ‘great tribulation’ or ‘suffer intensely’ or ‘suffer greatly’ prophesied in next sentence. Those who commit adultery with Jezebel will be thrown into great tribulation if they do not repent. This is great pain, disaster, and sorrow. Judging from “I will kill her children with death” in 2:23, children as the next generations of the unrepentant at a much later date, only if the children do not repent, maybe beginning around c.AD 8,580~, will be thrown into great tribulation (or distress) (Revelation 7:14), which will the trial or test (Revelation 3:10) of the Seven Seals as written in the chapter 6 of <Revelation>.
○ It is the important verse that “I will kill her children with death”. In the Old Testament, if a person betrayed LORD God, he himself would die miserably for his sins, but there were many cases in which his descendants paid the price for his sins. However, in this case, even the children do not repent. Therefore, this meaning is not only just to kill her children, but also they will be thrown into eternal death, at the time of resurrection for Judgment (c.AD 12,800~), that is, the second death (Revelation 20:14~15; 21:8).
☞ If we interpret it in this way, if we resist or betray God the Father or Jesus Christ once, and if we do not repent of that sin, we can predict that the sin will descend or go down not to the 3rd or the 4th generation, but to the 30th, or until the end. That's why we need to repent and ask for forgiveness.
☞ Disasters in the days of his descendant – Ahab (reign BC 874~BC 85), the 7th king of the Northern Kingdom of Israel betrayed LORD God, as a result, the dogs licked up his blood when Ahab was killed by an arrow in BC 853 (1 Kings 21:19, 22:37~38), and then in BC 841, 70 sons of Ahab were slain by the 10th king Jehu (reign BC 841~BC 814). (1 Kings 21:24, 2 Kings 10:1~11). This came true as LORD God had told Elijah (1 Kings 21:29).
<1 Kings> 21:29 - “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”) (NIV)
☞ If you betray God, punish up to the 3rd or the 4th generation, if you love God, love up to 1,000 generations – Please read the following <Exodus>.
<Exodus> 20:5 – You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,(NIV)
6 - but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
