Commentary on John 14 (8)
Jesus said, 'What I say is the Father's word.'
So John 14:13 becomes the Lord's teaching on true prayer.
"Whatever you shall ask in my name, that will I do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." (John 14:13)
Let's look at 'ask in my name'.
Is it 'in my name'? In my name.
Now we know who Jesus Christ is through the Gospel of John.
We should always keep in mind that Christ is the Ho Logos who was in the beginning.
Then we will know what the prayer 'in his name' is.
In his name'... If we can do this, the prayer will be a surefire hit.
What should you ask for when you am in the darkness?
You should ask for light.
Like David, you should say, 'You are my light.'
Wouldn't he, who is light, give us light when we ask for the light in his name?
If you can only abide in the righteousness and truth of the Lord, cry out, 'Lord, you are my light.'
What can you ask for when you have no strength? It's strength.
What do you seek when your soul is hungry? It is the bread of life.
What do you seek when your soul is thirsty? Living water.
'Lord, you are my strength, the bread of my life, and the living water.' This is how you should appeal.
Do you understand what it means to pray in my name?
It is not a list of things and then at the end, “Pray in the name of Jesus.”
Now we must fully understand how to pray.
How many people pray prayers that have nothing to do with the Lord’s name…they are all prayers of Gentiles outside of Christ.
Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus Christ spoke of his name countless times.
If you have no leader, you say, “Lord, be my shepherd.” If the Lord does not become you shepherd, He is not the Lord.
If we know the truth and earnestly cry out to the Lord’s name in him, he will surely answer.
In the Gospel of John alone, there are many names for the Lord.
If we collect all the names in the other scriptures, the Lord’s names are enormous.
Just as human needs are complex and diverse, so are the Lord’s names.
If we keep the word of the Lord and love the Lord, the Lord will give us whatever we ask for in the list in his name.
This is the Lord’s promise. It is not our will.
Do you understand the principle of prayer now?
That is why I say that I am a person who can receive answers much more than George Mueller, who received answers to prayers 50,000 times in his life.
It is because he has the secret of receiving answers dozens of times a day. That is David.
When we become one bread, one body, and one spirit with the Lord through the truth in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the King in the kingdom of glory, is Immanuel to me, and the Lord who is Immanuel is on the throne of glory.
However, the concept of prayer that many people have is that if they use God to obtain something visible, they call that an answered prayer.
We see that the habits of old beliefs remain.
Why do I want to preach the Gospel of John?
The Gospel of John is the attribute of Christ.
In other words, it is the attribute of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, that name has.
The attribute in his name are, if you pray in his name with love for him and faith in him, he will give you whatever is in his name.
This is the promise of the Lord.
Therefore, please do not misunderstand prayer.
Sometimes, when I begin an commentary of the Bible and pray, I list the Lord's attributes.
If the Lord gives us all these things, what more can we ask for?
He gave us all the various lists in his great name and said that he would give us anything we ask for in his name, so what more could we ask for?
Don’t we sing in hymns, “Blessings and eternal life, Jesus, I have nothing more to ask for”?
God entrusts the world to those who pray according to the promise of our Lord.
God entrusts them with things of the world, saying, “You are my sure steward. You will be able to manage it in a way that pleases me.”
He entrusts it to us like this.
Therefore, please carefully ask for the list in his name from now on when you pray.
That is why the Bible says in many places that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13)
For example, when we feel frustrated, find out why we are frustrated and try praying because of that frustration.
‘Ah, I’m frustrated. After analyzing the cause, I realized that I am frustrated because I have no money.’
This is not something you should do.
Isn’t it hunger because there’s no food?
Isn’t it thirst because there’s no water?
Isn’t it hunger and thirst because there’s no word of God in the soul?
That’s why we should seek what we should seek.
I wrote title a column a long time ago, “We should envy what we should envy.” we should envy what we should envy, right?
There are so many blessings in the name of the Lord, such as the glory and rich, the life and strength of him, the radiance and fullness of him, so why do we seek the wrong things?
But when will anyone seek him?
Let's read John 14:13 again.
"Whatever you shall ask in my name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son."
God is glorified through Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ is glorified through us, his servants.
Parents want to teach their children well, dress them well, and do everything for them because children are the glory of their parents.
That's why the scariest curse people have is the word "son of a bitch."
If you had parents, would they leave you alone like that?
Would parents leave them alone like that?
Parents dress up, teach, and instruct their children for their own glory.
The same is true for us.
The Lord's will not to leave us as orphans means that he will use everything in his name to adorn us so that he may be glorified.
Therefore, pray to become children of God.
