Only my condemnation injures me.

오로지 나의 정죄만이 나에게 상처를 입힌다.

1 Injury is impossible. And yet illusion makes illusion. If you can condemn, you can be injured. For you have believed that you can injure, and the right you have established for yourself can be now used against you till you lay it down as valueless, unwanted, and unreal. Then does illusion cease to have effects, and all it seemed to have will be undone. Then are you free, for freedom is your gift, and you can now receive the gift you gave.

1. 상처라는 것은 불가능하다. 하지만 환상은 환상을 만들어낸다. 네가 만약 정죄할 수 있다면, 너는 상처를 입을 수 있다. 그럴 때 너는 네가 누군가에게 상처를 입힐 수 있다고 믿은 것이며, 따라서 이제 너 자신을 위해 확립한 권리가 너에게 반하여 사용될 수 있기 때문이다. 네가 그 권리를 가치 없고, 원하지 않으며, 실제가 아닌 것으로 여겨 내려놓기 전에는 말이다. 그것을 내려놓으면 환상은 결과를 낳기를 멈추고, 환상이 가진 듯했던 모든 것은 무효화될 것이다. 그러면 너는 자유로워진다. 너는 자유를 선물로 주었으며, 이제 네가 준 선물을 받을 수 있기 때문이다.

2 Condemn and you are made a prisoner. Forgive and you are freed. Such is the law that rules perception. It is not a law that knowledge understands, for freedom is a part of knowledge. To condemn is thus impossible in truth. What seems to be its influence and its effects have not occurred at all. Yet must we deal with them a while as if they had. Illusion makes illusion. Except one. Forgiveness is illusion that is answer to the rest.

2. 정죄하라. 그러면 너는 죄수가 된다. 용서하라. 그러면 너는 자유로워진다. 이러한 것이 지각을 지배하는 법칙이다. 그것은 앎이 이해하는 법칙이 아니다. 자유는 앎의 일부기 때문이다. 따라서 진리 안에서는 정죄가 불가능하다. 정죄의 영향이나 결과로 보이는 것은 결코 일어난 적이 없다. 하지만 우리는 당분간 그것들이 마치 일어난 듯이 다루어야 한다. 환상은 환상을 만든다. 하지만 여기에 예외가 하나 있다. 용서는 다른 모든 환상에 답하는 환상이다.

3 Forgiveness sweeps all other dreams away, and though it is itself a dream, it breeds no others. All illusions save this one must multiply a thousand fold. But this is where illusions end. Forgiveness is the end of dreams because it is a dream of waking. It is not itself the truth. Yet does it point to where the truth must be and gives direction with the certainty of God Himself. It is a dream in which the Son of God awakens to his Self and to his Father, knowing They are one.

3. 용서는 다른 모든 꿈을 쓸어버리며, 비록 그 자체로 하나의 꿈이기는 하지만 다른 꿈들을 낳지 않는다. 이 하나를 제외한 모든 환상은 천 배로 늘어날 것이다. 반면에 용서는 환상이 끝나는 곳이다. 용서는 깨어나는 꿈이므로, 꿈의 종말이다. 용서 자체는 진리가 아니다. 하지만 용서는 진리가 있는 곳을 가리키며, 하느님의 확실성을 가지고 방향을 제시한다. 용서는 하느님의 아들이 자신의 자아와 아버지께로 깨어나, 그들이 하나임을 알게 되는 꿈이다.

4 Forgiveness is the only road that leads out of disaster, past all suffering, and finally away from death. How could there be another way, when this one is the plan of God Himself? And why would you oppose it, quarrel with it, seek to find a thousand ways in which it must be wrong, a thousand other possibilities?

4. 용서는 재앙을 피하고 모든 고난을 지나서, 마침내 죽음을 벗어나도록 인도하는 유일한 길이다. 이것이 하느님의 계획이거늘, 어찌 다른 길이 있을 수 있겠는가? 그런데 너는 왜 그것을 반대하고, 그것과 싸우고, 용서가 틀려야만 하는 천 개의 길과 천 개의 다른 가능성을 찾으려고 하는가?

5 Is it not wiser to be glad you hold the answer to your problems in your hand? Is it not more intelligent to thank the One Who gives salvation, and accept His gift with gratitude? And is it not a kindness to yourself to hear His Voice and learn the simple lessons He would teach, instead of trying to dismiss His Words and substitute your own in place of His?

5. 차라리 너의 문제들에 대한 답을 네가 손에 쥐고 있다는 사실에 기뻐하는 것이 더 현명하지 않겠는가? 구원을 주시는 성령께 감사드리고, 그의 선물을 감사하며 받아들이는 것이 더 지혜롭지 않겠는가? 성령의 말을 무시하고 그것을 너 자신의 말로 대체하려고 하는 대신에, 그의 음성을 듣고 그가 가르치려는 단순한 레슨을 배우는 것이야말로 너 자신에 대한 친절이 아니겠는가?

6 His words will work. His words will save. His words contain all hope, all blessing and all joy that ever can be found upon this earth. His words are born in God, and come to you with Heaven's love upon them. Those who hear His words have heard the song of Heaven, for these are the words in which all will merge as one at last. And as this one will fade away, the Word of God will come to take its place, for it will be remembered then and loved.

6. 성령의 말은 효과가 있을 것이다. 성령의 말은 구원할 것이다. 성령의 말에는 이 땅에서 찾을 수 있는 모든 희망과 축복과 기쁨이 담겨있다. 성령의 말은 하느님 안에서 태어나, 천국의 사랑을 싣고 너에게 온다. 성령의 말을 듣는 자들은 곧 천국의 노래를 들은 것이다. 그것은 모든 것이 마침내 하나로 융합되는 말이기 때문이다. 그리고 이 하나가 사라지면서, 하느님의 말씀이 그 자리를 차지하러 올 것이다. 그때는 그 말씀이 기억되고 사랑받을 것이기 때문이다.

7 This world has many seeming separate haunts where mercy has no meaning and attack appears as justified. Yet all are one—a place where death is offered to God's Son and to his Father. You may think They have accepted, but if you will look again upon the place where you beheld Their blood, you will perceive a miracle instead.

7. 이 세상에는 따로 떨어져 있는 듯한 수많은 소굴이 있다. 그곳에서 자비는 아무런 의미도 없고, 공격은 정당해 보인다. 하지만 그 모든 소굴들은 사실 하나다. 그곳은 단지 하느님의 아들과 그의 아버지에게 죽음이 제공되는 곳이다. 너는 어쩌면 그들이 이미 죽음을 받아들였다고 생각할 수도 있다. 하지만 네가 그들의 피를 보았던 곳을 다시 바라본다면, 그 대신에 기적을 지각하게 될 것이다.

8 How foolish to believe that They could die! How foolish to believe you can attack! How mad to think that you could be condemned and that the holy Son of God can die! The stillness of your Self remains unmoved, untouched by thoughts like these, and unaware of any condemnation which could need forgiveness. Dreams of any kind are strange and alien to the truth. Yet what but Truth could have a Thought which builds a bridge to truth which brings illusions to the other side?

8. 그들이 죽을 수 있다고 믿는 것은 얼마나 어리석은지! 네가 공격할 수 있다고 믿는 것은 얼마나 어리석은지! 네가 정죄받을 수 있고 하느님의 거룩한 아들이 죽을 수 있다고 생각하는 것은 얼마나 미친 짓인지! 네 자아의 고요함은 이와 같은 생각에 전혀 영향받지 않고, 용서가 필요할 수도 있는 그 어떤 정죄도 알지 못한 채, 흔들림 없이 남아있다. 어떤 종류의 꿈이든, 진리에게는 낯설고 이질적이다. 하지만 진리 외에 그 무엇이, 환상을 그 반대편의 진리로 건네주는 다리를 놓는 생각을 할 수 있겠는가?

9 Today we practice letting freedom come to make its home with you. The truth bestows these words upon your mind that you may find the key to light and let the darkness end:

9. 오늘 우리는 자유가 찾아와 너와 함께 편안히 머물도록 허용하는 연습을 한다. 네가 빛으로 가는 열쇠를 찾아 어둠을 끝낼 수 있도록, 진리가 너의 마음에게 다음과 같은 말을 선사한다:

10 Only my condemnation injures me.

Only my own forgiveness sets me free.

10. 오로지 나의 정죄만이 나에게 상처를 입힌다.

오로지 나 자신의 용서만이 나를 자유롭게 풀어준다.

11 Do not forget today that there can be no form of suffering that fails to hide an unforgiving thought. Nor can there be a form of pain forgiveness cannot heal.

11. 고통이 취하는 모든 형식은 용서하지 않는 생각을 감춘다. 그리고 용서는 모든 형식의 고통을 치유할 수 있다. 오늘 이를 잊지 말라.

12 Accept the one illusion which proclaims there is no condemnation in God's Son, and Heaven is remembered instantly; the world forgotten, all its weird beliefs forgotten with it, as the face of Christ appears unveiled at last in this one dream. This is the gift the Holy Spirit holds for you from God your Father. Let today be celebrated both on earth and in your holy home as well. Be kind to both, as you forgive the trespasses you thought them guilty of, and see your innocence shining upon you from the face of Christ.

12. 하느님의 아들 안에 정죄란 없다고 선포하는 유일한 환상을 받아들여라. 그러면 이 유일한 꿈 안에서 그리스도의 얼굴이 마침내 장막을 걷고 나타남에 따라, 천국이 즉시 기억되고, 세상이 잊히며, 세상의 그 모든 기이한 믿음도 함께 잊힌다. 이것이 바로, 성령이 너의 아버지신 하느님께 받아 너를 위해 간직하고 있는 선물이다. 땅과 너의 거룩한 집에서 오늘을 축하하자. 네가 그것들이 저질렀다고 생각한 죄를 용서하고, 너의 순결이 그리스도의 얼굴로부터 너를 비춰주는 것을 보면서, 그것들을 친절히 대하라.

13 Now is there silence all around the world. Now is there stillness where before there was a frantic rush of thoughts that made no sense. Now is there tranquil light across the face of earth, made quiet in a dreamless sleep. And now the Word of God alone remains upon it. Only that can be perceived an instant longer. Then are symbols done and everything you ever thought you made completely vanished from the mind which God forever knows to be His only Son.

13. 이제 온 세상이 침묵한다. 전에는 말도 안 되는 생각들이 정신없이 날뛰던 곳이 이제는 고요하다. 이제 꿈 없는 잠을 자며 조용해진 땅의 얼굴 곳곳에 잔잔한 빛이 머문다. 이제 땅 위에는 오로지 하느님의 말씀만 남아있다. 오로지 그 말씀만이 한 순간 더 지각될 수 있다. 그때는 상징들이 사라지고, 네가 만들었다고 생각한 모든 것이, 하느님이 당신의 유일한 아들이라고 영원히 아시는 마음에서 완전히 사라져 있다.

14 There is no condemnation in him. He is perfect in his holiness. He needs no thoughts of mercy. Who could give him gifts when everything is his? And who could dream of offering forgiveness to the Son of Sinlessness Itself, so like to Him Whose Son he is, that to behold the Son is to perceive no more and only know the Father? In this vision of the Son, so brief that not an instant stands between this single sight and timelessness itself, you see the vision of yourself and then you disappear forever into God.

14. 하느님의 아들 안에 정죄란 없다. 그는 자신의 거룩함 안에서 완벽하다. 그에게는 자비로운 생각들이 필요 없다. 모든 것이 그의 것이거늘, 그 누가 그에게 선물을 줄 수 있겠는가? 그 누가 죄 없음 자체의 아들에게 용서를 선물한다는 꿈을 꿀 수 있겠는가? 그 아들은 아버지를 너무도 닮아서, 아들을 보는 것은 더 이상 지각하는 것이 아니라 단지 아버지를 아는 것인데 말이다. 아들에 대한 이러한 비전은 너무나 속히 지나가서, 이 유일한 모습을 보고 무시간성 자체로 가는 데는 단 한 순간도 걸리지 않는다. 너는 이러한 비전 안에서 너 자신에 대한 비전을 보고는, 하느님 안으로 영원히 사라진다.

15 Today we come still nearer to the end of everything that yet would stand between this vision and our sight. And we are glad that we have come this far and recognize that He Who brought us here will not forsake us now. For He would give to us the gift that God has given us through Him today. Now is the time of your deliverance. The time has come. The time has come today.

15. 오늘 우리는 우리의 시각과 이러한 비전 사이에 서있는 모든 것의 종착점에 한층 더 가까이 다가간다. 우리는 이만큼 멀리 온 것에 기뻐하며, 우리를 여기로 데려온 성령이 이제 우리를 저버리지 않을 것임을 인식한다. 오늘 성령은 하느님이 그를 통해 우리에게 주신 선물을 우리에게 주고자 하기 때문이다. 지금은 네가 구원되는 때다. 그때가 왔다. 오늘 그때가 왔다.
